The pain radiating from his back made him a bit uncomfortable, but seeing the concern brimming in her eyes, he suddenly laughed, "Clara, I couldn't tell that you're so slender yet quite strong."
His bright and cheerful smile shone in her almond eyes, leaving her momentarily dazed. It seemed like this was the first time since their marriage that she saw him smile so warmly and freely.
"Who told you to suddenly open the door? I haven't even blamed you for scaring me." Her heartbeat inexplicably quickened. Clara feigned calmness as she helped him up from the floor, glancing sidelong at his back and his injured hand. Once assured there was nothing amiss, she withdrew her hand, "You should go to the meeting! I want to take a nap."
"Hmm, okay." The man chuckled, tidying his clothes slightly and then walked away.
Hearing the door close again, Clara finally relaxed, raising her hand to her chest where her heart was pounding wildly.
