When Amos Smith arrived with gifts, Bertha Haines was fixing herself up in the bathroom. Upon hearing the commotion, she quickly ran out to see the man, usually dressed in a sharp suit, in a rare change of outfit today.
The dark gray wool coat paired with light-colored casual pants made him look a few years younger.
"Happy New Year, Auntie."
As soon as Amos walked in, he first greeted Jerry Moore.
Seeing her mother seemingly dumbfounded, Bertha quickly ran over to remind her.
"Mom, this is my boyfriend—Amos Smith."
"Hello." Jerry Moore was 'conquered' by Amos's appearance at first sight and, when she came to her senses, she quickly glanced at her daughter beside her, "Who did you say?"
Bertha introduced specifically, "Amos, Maya's uncle."
Jerry Moore seemed startled.
She looked at Amos, then at her daughter, and promptly pulled her daughter into the guest room, leaving Amos standing awkwardly alone.
"Is he... the one from the Smith Consortium?"
