Lucy knew Thomas Chapman was standing up for her, yet deep down, she still wanted to defend her father a bit, "Before he left, he actually made arrangements, it was myself who didn't handle things well. But now, it's all in the past."
Thomas Chapman sighed, speaking without thinking, "Unless he returns to secular life, it's hardly over."

About ten minutes later, Thomas Chapman received a call from Henry Ronan.
When it ended, he tilted his head and said, "Let's go. They're done eating and are waiting for us in the parking lot."
Lucy held onto the ice bag and nodded, feeling curious about what they talked about privately.
Getting in the car, Thomas Chapman drove William Ansley straight back to the hospital. Lucy wanted to follow him, but was stopped, "Go home, over the next few days he still needs several bottles of postoperative antibiotics; wait until he's discharged and then you can come by."
Lucy gripped the seat handle tightly, sensing this was an excuse.
