Chapter 378 - 382: A Plague of Phantoms: The Price of Revolution XIII

"Logan Kingston!" I growled then snapped my wings open. Logan and the American's below all took a reactive step back. Despite being proved useless a few seconds ago, all the Americans still pointed their guns towards me.

"Careful! This monster appears to be one of those fused one!" One of the soldiers standing beside Logan told the others.

"Monster…?" I said slowly. Every syllable feeling like venom on my tongue though I knew this reaction was because of Chase's consciousness.

I jumped off the roof and glided down to the ground below. I landed in front of Logan, about ten feet away. I folded my wings into my back and snarled at the soldier, who's name was Oliver if Chase remembered correctly.

"The same blood that flows in mine splicer base's veins flows in thine great hero's!" I hissed then glared at Logan. Logan's eyes widened with realization.

"Chase…" He gasped, seemingly dumbfounded at my appearance and my connection to Chase but he quickly recovered. "…finally choosing to embody the monster I've known you were all along."

"Poetic…" I huffed then winced as a deafening boom echoed inside my eardrums. However instead of my world going dark I saw a large caliber bullet stop about two feet away from me thanks to the effect of the spell I cast. It floated helplessly in the air for a few seconds before dropping. "…found you…"

I knew exactly where the sniper was thanks to my enhanced hearing. Instead of turning my head to look in the direction I held a hand up and started casting an offensive spell sigil. Liquid started flowing out of my palm, floating into the air and condensing into a single arrow. I snapped my fingers and the arrow's tip pointed towards the sniper then shot off so fast it created a sonic boom.

"…That aught take care of that meddling insect." I said dismissively.

A second later a sound like thunder echoed through the air. Only it wasn't thunder, it was the echo of the impact of the arrow slamming into the side of the nearby hilltop and impaling the sniper through the heart.

Logan and the soldiers on either side of them had turned their heads to follow the flight of the spell, it wasn't until they heard the impact that they realized what I had done. Logan's head snapped back to me, a beastly snarl on his lips.

"CHASE!" He screamed then drew a knife from a holster on his chest and ran at me. Though when he passed through the field of my protection spell nothing happened until that knife touched it. The spell immediately activated and a transparent yellow dome appeared around me and closed around Logan's wrist and stopped Logan's advance immediately. Locking the two of us in a protective dome that none of the American soldiers outside could pierce.

"What the hell?!" Logan yelled as he looked up at his captured wrist. He gritted his teeth then pulled his sidearm and pointed it directly at my head. "GO TO HELL YOU CRYSTAL CURSED BASTARD!"

Logan pulled the trigger and nothing happened. His gun didn't go off, the trigger didn't even click. Being inside the radius of my spell prevents projectiles from being thrown, fired, or flung at the caster, usually by destroying the firing mechanism of the weapon that fired projectiles.

"That twas awkward…" I said as I looked at the helplessly Kingston. His face was flushed with anger or embarrassment, which I couldn't tell. "…by the by, my name is Nosforatu, not Chase at the moment."

"HIT IT HARDER!" A voice screamed from outside the barrier. I glanced to the side to see the barrier surrounded by Americans hitting it with the butts of their rifles and their fists.

I was about to say something to them when I felt a change in my spell. I turned my head in time to see Logan, no longer restrained by the barrier, charging towards me with a fist cocked back in a classic right cross. I didn't move or try to dodge the strike and let him hit me.

When he did I didn't budge a inch, let alone feel anything. Not that his punch was weak, it just wasn't on par with the spells and evos that's been hitting me for the majority of the night.

In response I scratched the spot on my cheek where Logan punched me then leveled the annoying asshole with a glare before I coiled my index finger against my thumb and flicked Logan on the center of his forehead. He was sent flying backwards through the barrier and crashing into the mob of soldiers surrounding barrier.

'I aught to stop messing around and deal with these annoyances.' I thought then started channeling incinerate attribute mana into my hand. I was about to send a wave of blue flames at the soldiers in front of me, including Chase's brother, when a lightning bolt suddenly slammed into my side.

I was knocked off my feet and sent flying into the side of the dilapidated entrance to the Sadamas center. Pain coursed through my body as I felt lightning arching through my veins. I gritted my teeth to keep from screaming, my mana immediately started repairing the damage from the lightning bolt.

"Leave it too the Americans to resort to beating on magic with fists and clubs!" A familiar voice cockily called out. I sat up and looked towards the direction I was shot from and saw Simon Caldifax with a platoon of English military splicers walking up the steps of the center. "Kingston! Rejoice for I, Simon Caldifax have personally come to save you and your poor soldiers from Job destruction!"

"Rejoice! Thine have as encored mine wrath!" I hissed then stood up and snapped my wings open.

Almost all of the splicers at Caldifax's command started casting offensive spell sigils. I channeled attributeless mana in large waves towards the splicers, letting the mana attach itself to the spell sigils the splicers were casting. I started using my mana siphon ability to drain the mana poured into the sigils. This disrupted the sigils and caused the total collapse of the spell sigils. The sigils shattered all at once, causing a mana feedback loop that made all the splicers scream out in agony from the recoil.

I was about to make a smart remark like Chase would have when I felt a enormous wave of mana rush into me. Much larger than I thought I could steal at once and definitely much more than my own mana pool. I gritted my teeth and staggered a bit, I felt deep gashes appeared on my arms and blood run down from my eyes like tears.

'Mana overload? That was enough to put me over my limit?' I thought.

I quickly started casting a offensive spell sigil in one hand and a axiom spell sigil in the other. Both spells fused together into a golden spell sigil. Blood red spiral stakes appeared from the sigil and floated around me while a golden light washed over me and healed my wounds. The blood stakes aimed towards the splicers and then flew at them.

Several shields made of ice, rock and hard light appeared in front of the splicers and American soldiers. They blocked some of the stakes but a few managed to break through their defense, impaling about fifteen splicers. Unfortunately Caldifax was not one of them.

The sound of gunfire drowned out all other sounds as the Americans had repositioned and around the shield and started firing at me. The bullets stopped a few feet in front of me like last time and fell to the ground, however they didn't stop firing when they noticed the bullets weren't hitting me like last time. They kept firing, which was annoying.

"You're not going to hit him with guns! You need magic!" I heard Simon Caldifax yell over the gunfire.

Having a bad feeling I snapped my wings open and jumped into the air. I barely dodged a barrage of fire balls that were lobbed over the defensive walls the splicers cast.

"Chase should have killed thine scoundrel days ago!" I hissed bitterly, then winced as a sharp pain radiated through my chest. My mana overload was not completely resolved.

I had to choke down the pain as I started flying erratically to dodge a incoming flurry of fireballs, lightning bolts, and ice spears. I started casting an offensive spell sigil as I deftly dodged a fireball only to have to stop casting the spell when that same fireball turned and started following after me.

'Homing fireball!' I thought as I started flying erratically. I flew high, making sharp twists and turns in an attempt to shake off the spell but it was firmly locked onto me and getting closer with each passing second.

I tucked my wings in and went into a nose dive in an attempt to gain some distance between me and the fireball. Simon Caldifax and his splicer soldiers foresaw this. My eyes widened as I saw dozens of fireballs flying towards me. I quickly opened my wings to break out of the nosedive and started flying erratically again, the dozens of new fireballs joining the original fireball that was homing in on me.

"BLAST!" I screamed as I channeled void attribute mana into my hands. I whirled around and sent waves of shadows into the air behind me. The shadows turned into a multitude of black holes that devoured the dogged fireballs, breaking them down into mana which I absorbed.

I let out a loud scream as the mana overload sent the excess mana inside my body into a frenzy. It felt as if my cells were being ripped apart and my insides were being liquefied. My body suddenly stopped listening to my commands and I fell towards the ground like a rock in a pond. I could do nothing but watch as the ground got closer and closer.

The impact was pure agony. My nerves already sent into overdrive thanks to the mana overload, the new pain signals were amplified to levels of pain that neither I, Chase, or Fours had ever felt before. My wounds from the fall were healing, broken bones, ruptured organs, and twisted limbs being forcefully restored and forced back into place.

I started to push myself up, fighting through the pain, when a ice spear impaled me through my shoulder from behind. I let out a strangled cry and grabbed the spear with my free hand.

"He's weakened! I told you this monster has a weakness! We can win!" Simon Caldifax yelled to his men. I looked over my shoulder and saw Caldifax and his men running towards the part of the courtyard I had landed in.

"Sycophants…" I grumbled and crushed the tip of the spear then pushed the rest of spear back through the wound so it could heal.

I channeled freeze attribute mana into the ground and a wall of ice erupted behind me. I stood on shaky legs as I tried to think of a spell costly enough to get rid of the mana overload when a shadow darkened the sky above me.

I looked up and saw a titan jumping over the ice wall and preparing to crash down on top of me. I jumped out of the way, while the spell I cast earlier would protect against physical attacks I didn't want to test it against the full weight of a titan that weighed several tons. The titan landed with a loud boom, just barely missing me.

I started channeling void attribute mana into my wings and flapped them at the titan. A black hole that moved in a straight line appearing in front of me and sucked the titan inside, twisting and crushing it into dust.

I turned my attention back to Caldifax and his splicers only to realize that they had summoned their evos. Titans, Lyons, and several evos that Chase had never seen before surrounded me. I bared my fangs at the evos and started channeling tempest attribute mana into the air around me, making it swirl around me.

A tornado formed, the funnel stretching into the sky and sticking up the evos that surrounded me, flinging them all over the battlefield. Lightning suddenly bounced around the funnel cloud before arching and striking me point blank in the chest. I couldn't scream, the electricity coursing through my body prevented my vocal cords from working.

The pain made me stop mana channeling and the tornado disappeared as quickly as it was formed. More lightning bolts slammed into my body, one after another in rapid succession. I felt my skin become charred and my organs rupture, it was agony.
