"Mom, lunch is ready. Are you coming down to eat, or should I have someone bring it up?"
After speaking, everyone held their breath and waited for a moment, but there was still no response from inside.
Fiona became even more anxious. She raised her hand to knock again, when finally there was some movement inside. Julia's voice came through, "I'm not hungry yet. Have Frederick bring it up in two hours."
Upon hearing this, Fiona quickly spoke, "Mom, I'm sorry, I know I'm at fault. Please don't be angry, okay?"
She held onto the doorknob, but after speaking heard no response. It was clear that Julia didn't want to talk to her, treating her as if she were invisible.
This had never happened in the past 26 years. Fiona had upset Julia before, but it was usually resolved overnight. This time, it was serious!
