Chapter 70 - Chapter 70: New Unit

"See, I had it all under control, just like I told ya." I said nonchalantly to my companions and the crowd of somewhat stunned troops.

"Uh-ha." Don, the old military sniper ghoul, uttered speechless.

I know that kill would be a huge accomplishment for any old wastelander, but come on now... Well, I did take down what is supposed to be a mutant on the top of the food chain both single-handedly and effortlessly, so I guess their reactions are understandable.

I waited around for a few seconds to see if they would work through their dilemmas on their own, but they didn't seem like they were going to come back anytime soon, so I lent my assistance. "Okay, that's enough gawking. Let's continue so we can get something to eat."

"Man, I'm hungry." I commented as I began walking off in the direction of the RobCo facility.

As Alice and the troops rejoined me, my mind went to a topic I had been thinking about every now and again.

I'm getting really sick and tired of calling my base in the wastes by its nondescript name, so I think it's about damn time for a name change. Now the question is, what should it be... Fallout 4 had its Sanctuary so I could go for a similar naming scheme since it will become an incredibly safe place once those exterior fortifications I plan on building have been erected.

That said, I intend on turning it into more of a major base slash production hub and not something to house a budding settlement, thus that won't really fit. I also have to consider the name Vault 101 will take when it grows out from the earth, so there's that to consider too... Mm, I suppose something like Fort Dawn could work. It does cover the military aspect with fort and the foundational element with dawn.

I stewed on the name for a short bit as I closed the distance with the reinforced facility in the distance and inevitably made up my mind.

Yeah, I'm not really coming up with anything else, so it'll have to do.

Having come up with a suitable name for the place that will become my springboard to total domination, I continued my stride southward. Not all that many minutes later, the convoy and I came streaming in through the awaiting loading bay doors and began hurrying to the dining hall to grab a bit of dinner whilst my mechanical forces transported the plethora of supplies we brought back to the warehouses and food storage sections.

...

"Ahh, it's good to be back." I thought aloud after yet another delicious meal.

"It was fun, but I really couldn't wait to get back after running around non-stop and fighting off the mutated wildlife for hours."

"Yeah, I had just about enough of it too by the end there." I agreed with my girl.

I spent a few minutes chilling with Amata before I decided to get a move on. "Alright, I'm going to head out and get working on those projects of mine. Do you want to come along?"

"As much as I would love to follow you, I think I'm going to go relax at home for the rest of the day and just take it easy. We did have quite the hectic day after all."

"That's an understatement."

Wrapping up the conversation there, I wandered off to my personal workshop. And right as I stepped foot into the place, I received a notification out of the blue informing me that one of my recent robot designs that had yet to be built had finally come off the production line.

It appears the power armor upgrades will have to wait.

Throwing that project on the back burner momentarily, I performed a 180 and proceeded in the direction of the robot manufacturing sector of my base. Excited to see my newest creation in the flesh, I sped through the industrial halls and zoomed past many automated turrets and dozens of tireless robots working hard to accomplish my wants, and before long, I arrived. What came into view as soon as I stepped foot into this industrious area was lines of machines constantly churning out new parts, over a hundred robots assisting in the manufacturing of even more of their brethren, and last but not least, a massive six legged mechanical monstrosity.

| Mammoth Walker |

Carry Capacity: 105,000

Power: Fusion Breeder

Value: 25,000,000

Description: The Mammoth Walker massive heavily armored jet black six-legged robot walker that looks similar to a cross between a Behemoth robot walker made by the Calculator out in the Midwest portion of the United States and a C&C Mammoth MK. II. This titan of a machine stands at a height of three stories and can take on a majority of threats in the wasteland single handedly and with relative ease with its wide array of armaments. Which consist of an under-nose mounted six-barreled magnetically accelerated 20mm Vulcan gatling gun, 6 top-mounted six-barreled gatling laser turrets that can take out normal targets whether they be on land or in the air, these turrets can also dispose of incoming explosives.

As impressive as that selection of weapons already is it isn't all, this robot also comes equipped with two side-mounted hive missile pods one on either side of the walker's head, two internal missile pods that are installed into the back of the Mammoth Walker that will open their armored hatches when they have a target to fire upon, 6 leg-mounted laser ball turrets with one mounted on each of the robot's legs, 2 side-mounted six-barreled gatling laser turrets, and finally 1 specialised rear-mounted turret armed with a single six-barreled gatling laser and 2 belt-fed gauss machine guns.

On top of its extensive weapon selection, the robot is covered in emp shielding like with all of its creator's designs and is fueled by fusion breeder technology. Which powers its suite of imaging and targeting upgrades and the specially designed servos that were required to handle this robot's colossal weight of 325 tons plus whatever it was carrying at a max speed of 20 miles per hour. Designed by Harold Todd Woods.

"Now that's a weapon of war." I thought aloud before beginning to approach my creation.

The moment I stepped in front of it, I first admired the scale of the mechanical construct before beginning to scan it over and over again with my perception field.

After doing my due diligence, I couldn't help vocalise my thoughts. "I have no doubt this big boy can handle just about anything the wasteland can throw at it... It might even be able to take on the likes of the Brotherhood Of Steel all on its own, that is, if they don't activate Liberty Prime or something with comparable firepower."

Once I got done playing a battle simulation in my head between the tech hoarding brotherhood and my newest robot model, I continued my thoughts, although mentally this time.

Nevertheless, I have no intent of coming into conflict with them, so that scenario will likely never play out. As for other entities on a similar level, the Brotherhood Outcasts come to mind and seeing how the knights in steel weren't able to stop them from leaving nor make nice with them, I'm sure I won't be able to. So if their so-called family were unable to, what kind of chance do I have? Meaning I'll have to eliminate them once they splinter off from the Brotherhood Of Steel to prevent them from causing any issues.

Too bad for them they're missing a comparable weapon to that nuke chucking robot, Liberty Prime, sitting in the Citadel, so they won't stand a chance. And even if they brought out Fat Men mini-nuke launchers alongside missile launchers and fired them en masse, it still wouldn't be enough simply due to the fact the explosive ordnance would get shot down way before they could get past the overwhelming firepower of the point defense system.

That aside, I wouldn't even be able to send this guy at them even if I wanted to right now nor anytime soon simply due to the amount of attention it would draw with its massive presence. The Zetan's are still the number threat on the board after all so since I've yet to do anything about them roaming about in the space above with their death ray equipped motherships, I'm going to have to keep this monster out of sight and hidden here... At least until I've started tackling them or have come up with a solution of some sort.

Maybe the stealth tech I've jacked and upgraded from Chinese Stealth Suits can be utilised... That could be a potential solution, although an extremely challenging one to implement.

As my mind was running through all the problems, I would encounter and have to resolve to bend and manipulate light on such a large scale, I infected the fresh off the production line Mammoth Walker, took full control of the beast, and sent it to an out of the way location in the loading area. Whilst that monstrosity was moving slowly across the spacious open industrial portions of the facility, I took control of the rest of recently manufactured autonomous machines and set off once again for my personal workshop ready to get to work on designing a replacement for the Enclaves Black Devil Power.

When I arrived at my destination, I didn't waste another second and immediately proceeded to my workbench, plopped my rear end in the seat, and entered my brainstorming mode.

Alright, it's finally time to create this new power armor set for my current troops and those yet to be recruited. Now what do I want and need this suit to be... Well, I don't particularly want a whole bunch of different specialised sets because of inefficiency reasons, so something universal that can handle most tasks would be desirable. My personal set of power armor can basically handle everything, however it is on the rather heavy side, so I'll tone down on the armor weight and use it as a sort of base... There, that should do it.

What else does it require, hmm... There are going to be a hell of a lot of troops I imagine in the not too distant future, so a built in encrypted communication system would be one hell of a useful feature, especially for coordinating movements. My and Amata's suits are missing that particular feature, hence I'll tack that on to ours as well. A holographic heads up display would be pretty rad too, but I'm currently missing the tech required for that and am nowhere near to being able to acquire it from the locations I know that have it, those being Big Mt and the Sierra Madre Casino.

Yeah, I won't be heading down south for quite a while, so that's a bummer. I guess that feature will have to be delayed till I can get my hands on that tech... Hmm, on second thought, why don't I just substitute it for compact LED screens for now they can serve the same purpose, just not as well. They're simple to manufacture and have a low energy cost, so they would be a solid alternative. I'm just going to need to add protection so the users' eyes aren't negatively affected by staring at the screens for hours on end.

Having come up with a temporary solution for that particular feature, I added it to the new design and tacked it onto both my and Amata's personal suits. Once I was finished implementing that feature, I reentered brainstorming mode and began attempting to come up with even more ideas.

Visors are kind of unnecessary at this point with the camera and sensor technology I have available. Thus, that can be done away with in favor of a solid one piece helmet that will provide even more protection than my own. And since the boys will be getting an upgrade in that department, I might as well scrap my and Amata's old power armor helmets and remake them with this new upgrade.

The upgrade itself aside, we both like the current aesthetics of our suits, so they'll remain the same there. And in that same line, a bare fully encased metal helmet with non-descriptive features doesn't really do anything for me, hence I'll add a fake T shaped crimson visor to the universal power armor purely for looks.

Envisioning a helmet visor similar to those of the Nod Militant Squads of C&C 3 Tiberium Wars, I quickly filled out the rest of the look and moved onto the next feature I want to add.

Force field components should become available in a few days, so maybe I should try my hand at adding it to all the suits. It's not going to be at the same level as what those stationary generators the Enclave were using are capable of, but it won't be far off when all the technologies and upgrades I've developed and have at my disposal are implemented together.

Absorbed by my work, I kept adding various features to the design and applying improvements wherever possible, inching closer and closer to a final set of armor. After going at it for a number of hours, I finally had a complete power armor schematic laying in front of me and had a mental blueprint for Amata and I's newest iteration of power armor.

Okay, that's enough work for one day, time to head upstairs and hit the hay.

With another event filled day practically over with, I did just as I planned and made a beeline for the elevator ready to call it quits. Eager to kick my feet up, I rushed to the living space I shared with the beauty I would take as my wife in a couple of years and went on inside, expecting to see Amata keeping herself entertained with a book. Unexpectedly, I found her lying on top of the couch in the living room passed out.

She must've been really out of steam if she couldn't keep her eyes open till I came upstairs... Well, I'm sure I would be too if I didn't have this busted system of mine.

Putting that thought to the back of my mind, I roamed over to our bed and got it ready since there was no way I was letting her sleep on the couch the whole night while I'm sleeping comfortably in bed. The minute I had everything set up, I strolled over to my female companion and carefully picked her up so I wouldn't wake her.

I then deposited her in bed before joining her myself. As I laid there beside the peacefully snoozing Amata, I replayed the many battles I participated in on our journey to and from Vault 101 in my head. In addition to the discussion I had with my dad James and my partner in crime's father, Alphonse, otherwise known as Vault 101's overseer.

This was one hell of a tiresome day, but I'm certain all the effort I'm putting in will be well worth the effort when all is said and done in the end.

I spent a few more minutes in my thoughts and as I was contemplating whether to turn those quests of mine in and undergo a mass level up; I decided to push it off till tomorrow.

Fuck it, I'll do it tomorrow.

Zzz…
