Chapter 20 - A Heart That Remembers

"I'm so sorry, baby. I failed to notice," Jake whispered, his voice thick with regret. He gently wiped away her tears with the back of his hand. "I'm sorry. I'm very, very sorry."

His gaze swept over her pale face. The worry etched in his eyes deepened.

You're not okay. I need to speak to the doctor just hold on for me." He pecked her cheek gently, tucking the blanket over her. Her breathing had calmed, her eyes fluttering shut again. Satisfied she was resting, he turned toward the door. But just as his fingers twisted the doorknob, it opened unexpectedly from the other side.

A graceful woman stepped in, her eyes calm but alert. Who are you?" Jake asked, slightly on edge. I'm Kim Riverson." His brow arched.

Your name sounds familiar…" She gave a gentle smile. Yes, I'm the one who called you earlier."

Jake shook his head.

No, not just that. Wait are you Dr. William Riverson's wife? "Yes, I am." She smiled again, amused. Jake let out a small, almost embarrassed laugh. "That explains it. Ma'am, you're really popular. I mean, who doesn't know the wife of the richest man in the world?"

Kim laughed softly, brushing off the flattery.

"How foolish of me. But to be honest, not everyone pays attention to such things on the internet. That's why I wasn't sure if you'd recognize me."

"You're right, ma'am." He nodded respectfully. Thank you so much for bringing her here. Please stay with her I'll be back shortly. I need to talk to the doctor." Kim nodded gracefully and moved to Aurora's bedside.

Moments Later…

Hi, Aurora. Hope you're feeling better now?"

Aurora stirred and opened her eyes at the familiar voice. Yes, I'm good… Thank you," she said weakly, blinking to adjust to the light.

Kim smiled warmly. Do you recognize me?" Aurora shook her head slowly. No… I don't think we've met before. Have we?"

"Oh, we have. But you were just a little girl back then. It's been years." Then how did you recognize me?"Your name gave it away."

Aurora tilted her head. Where did we meet, please?"

"At my husband's hospital. You were admitted there once."Aurora's eyes lit up. Oh my God… Madam Kim! How did I not realize? You still look so beautiful. I'm really glad to see you again."

Kim chuckled.

Same here, my dear. It's a joy to see you all grown up." Her smile faded slightly as she looked more closely. Do you still have your condition?"

Aurora nodded.

Yes… I haven't had surgery yet. I take pills daily, but I forgot them today. That's why I collapsed. "Why haven't you had the surgery?"

"We're still searching for a donor."

Kim's expression softened with empathy.

Aww… I truly hope you find one soon, sweetheart."

"Thank you. I really hope so too."

They exchanged contacts. The room filled with a comfortable silence, only broken by Aurora's gentle voice.

"Ma'am… I don't know why, but I always feel safe when you're around."Kim smiled, reaching out. I feel the same, dear."

Aurora opened her arms, and Kim pulled her in for a tight hug. Aurora rested her head on her chest as Kim gently stroked her hair.

Aurora, dear… is Jake your boyfriend?" she asked curiously. Aurora pulled back slightly, looking down shyly. Yes… he is."

"Oh, look at you getting all shy!" Kim laughed playfully. Aurora giggled, cheeks flushed.

He's my boyfriend… and I just know this relationship will end in marriage. I love Jake so much and I've never doubted his love for me."

Kim's face lit up with admiration.

Wow. That's beautiful. You remind me of my husband and I when we were younger madly in love and inseparable."

Aurora smiled dreamily.

That's exactly what I want for Jake and me."

Kim leaned in and held her hand. Don't worry, dear. You two will end up even better than we did."
