"Sister has been getting close to Ms. Hughes lately," Hazel Allison casually remarked, which suddenly made Jackson Vance realize something.
"Hazel, you mentioned earlier that Charlotte was learning to play the pipa with Ms. Hughes. Do you know how far she has progressed?" Jackson Vance inquired.
"I don't know. Sister even avoids discussing such small matters with me now. When I asked before, she only said it was something important. What important thing could learning the pipa be for?" Hazel's tone carried a hint of sadness.
"Something important..." Jackson Vance was starting to feel certain, "She's preparing for Mrs. Sheldon's birthday."
