It was like all of Daphne's senses suddenly began to tingle. "What do you mean?"
"You know what I mean, Daphne. How would you not know what I mean?" Meira's smile suddenly turned cold. "Aren't you the master of acting dumb in front of your enemy?"
Her fingers tapped out a seemingly whimsical melody against the tabletop, and the golden ring she wore clanged a corresponding rhythm.
She took a step towards Daphne.
Instinctively, Daphne wanted to take a step back. But she knew that if she did, she would be playing right into Meira's fear tactics.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Daphne replied cooly, trying to keep her heartbeat from racing.
"You're really the perfect little actress, aren't you? Playing me like how you would toy around with a mere puppet."
Meira continued leaning forward until the tip of her nose was nearly touching Daphne's. Without warning, she reached out and tightly gripped Daphne's neck between her fingers.
