We were tangled together like ivy and stone, curled up on Azriel's ridiculous, king-sized bed, limbs overlapped, hearts beating in sync.
The war was over. Sanctum was ours.And for the first time in years, we were just us.
My head rested on his bare chest, his fingers lazily tracing patterns into my spine. Every once in a while, he'd poke my side just to hear me yelp and threaten to incinerate him in his sleep. He'd laugh—that laugh, the one I'd kill to protect—and pull me even closer.
We were in that sweet, golden moment after the storm.
"You know," he murmured, brushing his nose against mine, "if you keep looking at me like that, I'm gonna start thinking I'm cute."
I snorted. "Azriel, you started thinking that a long time ago."
"I'm cute and humble. A deadly combo."
