The laughter was a slap in the servant's face.
He glared at Gu Fei and her father, furious. "Well now. A couple of country bumpkins dare to make a fool of me? If I don't teach you a lesson today, you won't even know what the law is!"
"Men, get over here!" the servant shouted. In an instant, two brutish, menacing-looking men rushed out from the doorway.
The two men glowered at Gu Fei and her father. Gu Fei gripped Gu Zhang's hand tightly, her heart pounding.
'I'm not sure I can handle these two tall, burly thugs. If it were just me, it would be fine; I could endure the pain and run. But Dad is right beside me!'
Gu Fei grew anxious. Seeing a few onlookers gathered around, she shouted, "Everyone, come and be the judge! We were just standing by the door, and now they want to beat us! Is there any justice in this world?"
Sympathy showed on the faces of the onlookers, but no one said a word.
