If Gaia did understand him, she made no overt signs of it. He wasn't sure what was going on through her mind, given how radically different her model of consciousness was.
He suspected that while she likely had much faster processing power over longer periods of time, the amount of time she needed to have a single thought was probably much longer.
Her metabolism was geological and geochemical.
Her cognition was likely electromagnetic, existing in the interactions between the mantle and the atmosphere through the electromagnetic fields generated by the latter.
Because of the vast distances across her existence, it took signals time to cross over and facilitate her cognition.
But once it did, her mind was undoubtedly mighty.
RUMBLE
A wave through the very fabric of space and time emerged from Gaia, spreading throughout into outer space.
"I'm going to take that as a yes," he remarked. "There is only one realistic path for our survival of what is to come, and that is to…"
