Chapter 2 - Quirk

The doctor returned with a gentle smile, clipboard in hand.

"Alright, Nagato. Let's see just what your quirk can do, shall we?"

Nagato nodded, hiding his caution behind the wide-eyed curiosity expected of a four-year-old.

'Internally, his mind raced. Here, power isn't forged by pain or discipline, but by this natural force—a quirk—awakened by fate before memory even forms. This system of theirs favours the lucky… but perhaps a little skill will help me adapt.'

His mother hovered supportively, yellow-gold hair glimmering as she squeezed his shoulder and followed to the testing suite. The room buzzed with high-tech equipment: impact sensors, treadmills, strength gauges, target arrays. It felt more like a hero's training ground than any clinic Nagato had known.

The Battery of Tests-

Strength:

The first test was simple. The doctor pointed to a padded machine and asked,

"Let's see how hard you can punch, Nagato. Just like you're breaking a piñata."

Nagato's fist struck out—he was careful, yet the latent power surged. The machine shrieked as the readings spiked: over ten times the force of an average adult male. The doctor adjusted the dials nervously.

"Incredible… that's the impact force of at least fifteen grown men. And he's only just manifested his quirk—it could rise further with age."

Nagato flexed his small hands, feeling energy coil beneath his skin. So, the Rinnegan's gifts translate to raw physical vitality as well.

Speed:

Next, they placed him on a sensor-lined track.

"Run as fast as you can to the wall and back," the nurse encouraged.

He blurred, moving with smooth, frightening velocity. The scanner blipped messages:

"Peak speed—41 meters per second. That's… well over 90 miles per hour."

Nagato worked to keep his breath steady, registering how easily his form obeyed.

Perception & Vision:

They rolled out a challenge board, where coloured lights blinked on targets hidden at various distances. "Can you point to the green dot over there?" Doctor asked.

Nagato focused—his vision shifted, and the world telescoped. He picked out each colour, even ones at the furthest edge of a distant window—neatly reading a serial code on a street sign almost 100 kilometres away. He could will his vision into total clarity, like viewing the world through a precision lens.

Further, the staff handed him a series of rapid-fire memory cards, asking him to describe the flashes. Time expanded for Nagato; every instant slowed and every detail resolved, effortless—his hawk-eye perception revealed.

'If I want, I can slow what I see to a crawl—another Rinnegan ability-'

Healing & Endurance:

When, by accident, a sensor scratched his palm, the medical staff darted over to tend him. But before anyone could press the antiseptic, the skin had already healed, pink and unbroken. The physician stared.

"His cellular repair is off the charts. We'll need to re-run everything. He may possess a regenerative attribute—almost complete super-healing."

Gravitational & Repulsion/Attraction:

With a measured gesture, Nagato caused weights to lift from metal trays, attract to his palm, or hurl away from him. At times, the instruments barely registered the force before being forced into a wall or swivelling in his hand.

The doctor jotted frantic notes: "Emitter type—gravitational field, repulsion/attraction control, output increases under stress."

Through it all, the ring-patterned Rinnegan shimmered softly, energy focusing each time he used his unique powers.

The Diagnosis

Finally, after well over an hour, the tests concluded. The doctor gathered Nagato and his mother—her eyes filled with anxious pride—by his desk.

"Mrs. Uzumaki," he announced, voice thick with awe, "your son's quirk is exceptional, and frankly, almost unique in scope."

He ticked off the points, face growing more animated:

"Emitter type: He can repel, attract, and manipulate gravity. So far, the highest measured force and speed I've ever recorded in someone so young."

"Mutant type: You'll notice his eye rings and those subtle piercings—marker of physical change, likely tied to his powers' focal point."

"Accumulation type: His output actually increases with focus and use, which is incredibly rare. He stores and amplifies this energy for surges."

"Enhanced physiology: Super-strength—at least 15 adult men, likely to grow. Reflexes and endurance off the charts. And a healing factor so advanced we had trouble catching injuries on sensors."

"Perception: He possesses what we call the 'hawk eye' phenomenon. He can see perfectly up to 100 kilometres away, resolve the smallest detail, and even process what he sees as if time slows."

"All this, and his power's just awakened. With time, training, and the right care, he could surpass even the top pro heroes."

His mother's tears were of pure wonder now as she hugged Nagato close, barely able to whisper, "My boy, my Nagato—you really are a miracle."

Nagato met her gaze, his body relaxed-

The doctor then pressed a pamphlet of "Support for Advanced Quirk Families" into his mother's hands.

"Let me give more details and advices for your boy's quirk", The doctor said then started typing on the computer's keypad.

"Mrs. Uzumaki, your son's quirk is extraordinarily advanced for his age and physique. It's important you remember: his body is still adapting to the sudden surge of power. For now, please ensure he doesn't use his abilities—especially the more intense ones—too frequently or for long periods. Overuse could cause severe physical strain: muscle fatigue, dizziness, possibly even fainting."

The mother nodded, worry flitting over her features.

The doctor met her eyes, tone firm yet comforting. "Another matter—Nagato's enhanced vision. It's remarkable, but pushing it to its utmost range or using detailed perception for long stretches will visibly strain his eyes. We noticed mild dryness and redness—classic signs of acute 'dry eye syndrome' associated with quirk awakening. This isn't permanent, but for now, please be cautious."

Reaching into a cabinet, the doctor produced a small box.

"I'm prescribing ocular supplements, as well as this medicated eye drop. Just use one drop in each eye, every third day—no more, no less. Follow the instructions carefully."

He scribbled notes and handed over a list of dietary recommendations—hydration, vitamin-rich foods, and plenty of rest.

"His eyes and body should gradually adjust as he gets older and more accustomed to his abilities. If you notice severe redness, headaches, or any sudden vision changes, contact us immediately."

He offered an encouraging smile. "Otherwise, everything is within control. Nagato is adapting better than most, and with time, his limits will steadily increase."

-----------------------------------------

The clinic had quieted after the flurry of morning tests. Sunlight slanted across the clean floor, stretching into the corners as Nagato sat beside his mother, her comforting presence grounding him. Bandages from the tests were mostly gone, and Nagato's eyes felt slightly dry, but his mind was as calm and clear as ever.

The doctor returned holding a tablet and a stack of forms, his voice light but official.

"Well, Nagato, one last thing…" He crouched down, a little more relaxed now that the tests were over.

"For your official record, we need to give your quirk a name. This is how it'll be listed with the quirk registry and your school, and, well, sometimes even the Hero Commission has a peek. Do you have a name in mind for it?"

Nagato considered this in solemn silence. Behind him, voices from the neighbouring examination room rose in bursts of laughter and excitement. Children, either waiting for their turn or fresh from awakening their quirks, were calling out names with wild abandon—

"Meteor Fist!"

"Blaze Cyclone!"

"God Mode Murder Explosion!"

"He is quirkless-"

Those voices—proud, brash, and echoing the boundless optimism of youth—seemed perfectly at home in this bright, hopeful world. For a moment, Nagato listened, the contrast settling around him: their enthusiasm, weightless and free, so different from the gravity of the power resting quietly behind his eyes.

He took a slow breath, letting the childish noise fade as he turned inward once more to choose a name that carried the memory and meaning of another life.

He met the doctor's gaze with his pale, swirling eyes and answered in a voice soft but unshakeable.

"Six Paths (The Eyes of Samsara)."

The doctor lifted a brow, a small grin tugging at his lips.

"Ho! That's quite the name for a child your age!" he teased gently, glancing at Mrs. Uzumaki. "Most kids go for something explosive, you know. Ultra Jelly Missile and whatnot. Why pick something so unusual?"

Nagato shrugged saying-

"No particular reason. I just… like it."

The doctor's grin widened.

"A solid choice. Mysterious, too." He typed it in, then clicked a final key.

"All set—'Six Paths (Eyes of Samsara)' it is. That's what'll go on your record and… well, your future, too. Here's a print-out for you."

A slip of warm paper slid from the printer. The doctor handed it over, the ink still smelling faintly sharp and new.

Nagato took it silently, the words stark on the page. Beside him, his mother smiled, brushing a hand through his hair, pride and strange wonder shining in her eyes.

The Paper said:-

With the final forms signed and instructions given, the doctor leaned back in his chair and offered Nagato and Mrs. Uzumaki a warm, reassuring smile. He gathered his notes, eyes lingering on the unusual details he'd recorded just minutes ago.

"One last thing before you both go," he began.

"Nagato's quirk is still developing. Sometimes, especially with rare or complex quirks like his, new features or abilities can manifest as he grows. For now, it's rare, but not impossible."

He glanced at Nagato pointedly, then continued,

"For example, I've noticed the subtle piercings starting to form around his ears. These may be another aspect of his physical mutation, related to the same process that caused the patterning in his eyes and the piercings at his nose and lips."

Mrs. Uzumaki nodded anxiously, a hand moving protectively to her son's shoulder.

"While the probability of entirely new abilities emerging is low, it's not zero. Quirk development can surprise us even years after awakening, especially with someone as unique as Nagato."

He slid a small card across the table. "If you notice anything unusual—new abilities, changes in his appearance, or anything that worries you—please contact us right away. It's best to keep a close eye on his progress."

The doctor's tone softened as he smiled again.

"Otherwise, take things slow and enjoy this time together. Little Nagato is remarkable, and with support, he'll grow into his quirk safely. Don't hesitate to reach out—I'll be here every step of the way."

Outside, the world felt wider, the sun a little warmer. Nagato walked quietly beside his mother, taking in the ordinary sights with a sharp, knowing gaze—aware that his new path, like his power, was still unfolding.
