Hayes Edwards glanced over and saw her smiling at him, her eyes curved into crescents, with little undereye pouches, giving her a dumb but sweet appearance.
"Hayes, I included you in my wish earlier," she said quietly, facing him.
It was a secret and couldn't be heard by others.
Hayes Edwards frowned, "What did you say about me? Were you badmouthing me?"
Grace Winter shook her head, "No." She smiled mysteriously, "But I can't tell you, it's a secret."
Hayes snorted, "I don't want to know anyway."
The day after the birthday, the two families arranged to go to the amusement park together.
Because it was the weekend, the amusement park was very crowded.
Mother Edwards reminded Hayes, "Hold Grace's hand and don't get separated."
But even without holding hands, Grace Winter would have stuck to Hayes Edwards.
Wherever Hayes went, she would follow.
