Chapter 2 - Getting a black dress for free

"You want me to take it free of cost?"

This is too good to be considered true. How can she give me a dress as costly looking as this one without asking for anything?

No, I can't get my hopes up.

"Had you not brought it up, the dress is Likely going to the waste bin.

Giving it to you is far more better than throwing it in the bin as that's where I plan to take it to. "

" No you can't do that. " I hug the dress to myself as if she's going to take it from me. "I'll take it then. Thanks for the dress." Sniffing the dress, is smile brightly.

"You're welcome. In some ways, am the person that should thank you for taking the dress from me. You've saved me the time I'll use to go to the bin. "

" Thanks. I'll keep the dress safe. "

I'll have to wash and air it.

This dress is one that'll make an appearance once every blue moon.

"You better do that. At least I'll be at peace knowing the dress is in good hands."

"Thanks."

"You're welcome." Smiling, she walk into the second room.

Miss Sip's shop has three rooms in it. One is her resting shop. She takes a rest there whenever the work she has becomes burdensome.

Only a few knows about this special resting room, and that's why Miss Sip loves it more.

This way, none of her customers will be able to locate her should she decide to have a rest in her resting room.

The second room is her sewing room. According to the name, you can tell what the room is all about.

That's where all her sewing activities takes place. Currently, I can hear the sounds of her seeing machine, something that signifies her workers are busy.

Had I being born in a family that's not as poor as mine, I would have loved to be a seamstress.

Seamstresses are not all that rich, but they always have a day to day interaction with the nobles, and that in some ways makes them nobilities.

The third room is the one am currently standing in. They call it the viewing and dressing room as this is the place where you test the dresses you purchased.

The room is divided into two, one being the dressing room while the other is the viewing room.

"These are her dresses. Tell her I'll have the other one sown for the party."

"Okay."

"Here, take this and put your gown in it." She gave me a black bag.

" Thank you." Smiling brightly, I take the bag from her. "I'll keep the dress safe. You don't have to worry, it's in safe hands."

"I know, that's why I gave it to you."

"Thank you."

I'll more than cherish the dress. All my life, I've not had any thing as exquisite as this. The dress is by far the best I've ever had all my life.

"I swear I'll hit your head on the wall if I should hear a word of thanks from you once more." She gives me a deadly glare.

"I won't. " I make a motion of zipping my mouth, and throwing the key away.

Walking back, I decide to take a longer route. Not only for me to stall more, but for the fact I'll get to see most of the nobles.

The females all converge at the yam ball stall that's close to the green river. By this time of the day, a person won't be able to cross that side without at least having a run in with a female Noble.

The old man who fries the delicious ball is a renowned cook, one who according to the news flying around, is the best cook in the entire kingdom.

The king of the Kingdom have tried getting him to cook in the palace, but the old man have refused.

He prefers to fry his yam ball in peace. I really envy the old man.

He've gotten a way to alleviate himself from poverty, but he chose to remain there. Some people might think it's a good and enviable virtue, but I see it as stupidity.

There's nothing else to call that but stupidity.

By refusing the offer he got from the palace, he's trying to indirectly say he love being poor.

If only I have the chance to work in the palace, I'll take the offer before it would have being given.

As a person born in the slums, there's nothing I won't do to change the situation of my family.

I might be born poor, but that doesn't mean am going to die poor. There's no way I'll fold my hands without doing anything.

I believe a person can be able to change their destiny. Right now, I might not have gotten the chance to change the said destiny, but that downs mean I'll cease searching for a way to change my life.

I won't be like my parents who seems comfortable in the life they have now. I won't be like my mates who thinks a person from the slums can never be at the top.

They think being born from the slums automatically makes you a person of the slum all the days of your life.

They might think that, but there's no way am going to believe their words. I might come from the slums, but that doesn't mean am of the slums.

Checking my purse, I make sure the money bag isn't only with me, but kept in a safe place.

Wouldn't want those young pickpocketers to get hold of it.

I know how many months it took me to save this amount of money that's what I need to keep it safe.

When it comes to things of the street, a person needs to be wise. You can't let things happen to you without your Knowledge.

Making sure the dresses in the bags are still there, I enter the busy market.
