Seven Sins System Chapter 444. Do
Devils Even Have Morality?
Puriel's gaze didn't waver.
"But yet, you're demanding she sacrifices everything she is, everything she could be, just to serve you. You claim it's different, but the core of it is the same. You're using her devotion for your own gain," Puriel countered, her voice unwavering.
I felt a surge of frustration. The goddess wasn't entirely wrong, but she also didn't understand the nuances of my world, of my power.
"You speak of sacrifice as if it's one-sided," I retorted, my eyes narrowing. "The bond formed through the contract is mutual. She gains power, protection, and purpose. It's a symbiotic relationship."
Red stepped forward, her face resolute. "My Lord, I've known what it means to follow you for centuries. I understand the price and I am willing to pay it. My loyalty is not blind. It's born of respect and trust. You saved me, gave me strength. I choose this willingly," she announced.
Puriel looked at Red, a mixture of pity and frustration in her eyes. "You say that now, but do you truly understand of what you're giving up?"
"I do," Red affirmed, her voice steady. "I've fought in wars and faced death countless times. My loyalty isn't a weakness; it's my strength. And I trust my Lord to honor that loyalty, just as he always has."
I pointed at Red, but my gaze was fixed on Puriel. "You heard her?" I asked, my voice carrying a note of finality, as if this alone was all the proof needed. "That's how loyalty works, Puriel. At least for devils," I stated.
Puriel's eyes were filled with disdain, her lips curling into a sneer.
"So your loyalty is just as far as sticking your flesh inside your servant?" she mocked, her tone dripping with contempt.
Her words were like a slap to the face. I could feel the anger simmering beneath my skin. If not for the thread of fate that bound our wrists, I would have attacked her without hesitation.
"You have no idea what you're talking about," I spat, my voice low and dangerous. "The bond we form is far more than physical. It's a merging of power, of essence. It's about trust and mutual strength."
Puriel didn't back down. "It sounds like a convenient excuse for indulgence and exploitation to me," she shot back, her eyes blazing with righteous fury. "You claim it's about power and loyalty, but all I see is you taking advantage of those who trust you."
Red stepped between us, her eyes pleading.
"My Lord, please," she said softly, looking up at me with a mixture of desperation and determination. "This is my choice. I understand what I'm committing to." She flicked her gaze to Puriel. "You… You don't understand our world, our ways. But I do. And I choose this willingly," she hissed in displeasure.
Puriel's gaze shifted to Red, her expression softening slightly.
"I respect your choice, but I also see the potential for abuse. Just because you trust him doesn't mean he's beyond reproach."
I took a step closer to Puriel. "You think I don't value my soldiers? You think I don't understand loyalty?" I said, my voice rising. "I've fought countless battles, led armies from the depths of hell, and you stand there judging me based on your narrow view of morality."
"Do devils even have morality?" Puriel asked, her voice dripping with disdain.
I felt something snap inside me. The restraint I'd been holding onto frayed and then broke completely.
Out of the blue, I laughed, a low, almost manic chuckle, and exhaled slowly.
"Right," I said, a displeased smile spreading across my face. "Why do I need to explain it to you anyway? You won't understand. After all… we are from different realms."
I took a step closer to her, the distance between us shrinking to almost nothing. "But I need to remind you of something, Puriel. For me… sex is the basis of any romantic relationship and connection. Without it, for me, we don't have any relationship. Not even with this stupid thread since it's against my will…" I said, my voice rising with each word.
Puriel's eyes flashed with a mix of emotions—anger, confusion, and a hint of something else.
"That's your justification? That without sex, there is no relationship? That's how shallow your understanding of connection is?"
I met her gaze unflinchingly. "It's not about shallowness. It's about authenticity. In my realm, bonds are forged in fire and passion. You can't comprehend that because your world is built on different foundations. You judge me based on your standards, but those standards don't apply to me."
She shook her head, her eyes filled with frustration. "And you think that justifies exploiting those who trust you? That because your realm has different rules, you're beyond criticism?"
I shook my head slowly from side to side, a bitter smile curling on my lips.
"This relationship will never work," I said, my gaze locked onto Puriel's. The hurt in my eyes was genuine. My words sounded selfish, and perhaps they were from a mortal's or an angel's point of view. But for demons, it was different.
Puriel's eyes hardened. "You are acting like a narcissist, Azrael," she stated.
Her words stabbed me deeper than any physical wound ever could. I didn't reply immediately. It was a harsh truth, one I couldn't easily dismiss. My relationship with Red, my insistence on the bond we would form, it all seemed twisted through Puriel's eyes.
I took a deep breath, my anger dissipating into a calm but profound sadness. "Then you should free yourself from me..." I said, my tone much calmer and undeniably hurt.
