Evan sidestepped the first thrust, caught the second with the flat of his sword, and pushed it aside. He then swept his leg across the floor, attempting to unbalance his opponent, but the man jumped just before contact, spinning mid-air to bring his sword down.
Inclining his blade above his head with both hands, Evan blocked the slash, the force sending a tremor down his arms.
Before the captain could recover, Evan stepped forward, turning his defence into an offensive swing aimed at the man's chest, but the captain brought one of his swords down to block and pushed off it, forcing Evan to stumble backwards from the impact.
The knight captain took advantage of Evan's momentary imbalance, lunging forward with his remaining sword in a downward strike.
Evan barely managed to parry, their blades meeting with a loud clang that echoed through the hall, and the captain, taking advantage of Evan's imbalance, pressed on, his movements growing faster.
