Elder Hawthorne's last few words were caught in his throat as he observed Elara Don's calm expression, his old eyes narrowing slightly.
At that moment, the elevator arrived, and Elara Don curved her lips slightly, still respectfully saying, "Please take your time, and be safe on your way."
The woman's face showed no trace of displeasure or grievance.
Elder Hawthorne nodded slightly, "Then Charlie will be a bit of trouble for you."
"No problem, goodbye."
Elara Don watched the elevator doors close, and only then did the smile on her face fade.
She raised her head, took a deep breath, and turned toward the door of her home.
It's impossible to say there was no disappointment.
Though she knew the Hawke Family would never accept her, hearing Elder Hawthorne's reminder stung her heart inevitably.
Her status indeed did not match Damon Hawke.
So, once they knew she had given birth to a Hawke Family bloodline, would they take Bea away from her?
