Chapter 43 - Time is Essential

SCOTT POV

Stanley was right.

It's a nuisance to close a business deal with Alva Woodsworth. In truth, it was arduous to start and lead a conversation navigating it my way. It's in the haughty way of her stares, and how finely she brings that subtle arrogance in her choices of small words. Short, and dismissive without beating around the bush. Diana wouldn't be much of a fast pass, given that her mother is as heavy as a boulder, something even Diana couldn't seem to move. Her extremely difficult mother brought herself in front of us with such cunningness which seemingly her second nature.

The way Diana and her mother get their act together do not imply filial bond. Well, it doesn't have to be in a grand and obvious gesture, but it's more of the smallest things of love and care that they never unveiled. There's a strain coming off the two, where Diana appeared to be watchful of her movements while her mother sat there cold and disdainful of everyone in the room including her daughter. I thought of it as nothing but an imperceptible motherly love uncommon in a wolf household. Alva stood at her pedestal, who intriguingly condescends Diana who is a suppressed wolf.

Or maybe, I was just being judgmental.

At dinner, I did my best to sense anything out of Alva. There's completely nothing. No warmth of a wolf, not even darkness of a nagual, or coldness of a vampire. Just, plain nothingness. Perhaps, that's why Stanley thought that they are humans, he couldn't sense anything. That completely bothers me. It goes to show that Diana and the mother she knew, are possibly not related. I cannot say Diana is in danger with her. Knowing that for the longest period of time, Diana is well-taken cared of, and even manicured from head to toe. In consideration, Alva could also be suppressed like Diana. My Luna, whom if I didn't imprinted on, I wouldn't know she's a wolf. Quizzed with what in the world Alva is, I also wonder why they are suppressed.

The dinner didn't ended well. Stanley and Priscilla left with disappointment, and a hope that I could stir the situation well. As I watch their car drove off, I rushed to my car with this crazed plan while sending out messages to the pack. Driven with my curiosity, I accelerated my car to Villa Estates. To my Luna's maternal home. Parking my car at a nearby empty lot a few streets off Diana's house, I walked my way to the Woodsworth Residence, snuck into their yard and waited in the shadows of the dark. A few seconds later, Cory and David appeared alongside me. "Took you both fast enough", I said.

"We left as soon as we received the message, Alpha.", Cory answered, blending well in the thick trees by the yard.

"Watch out for vamps", Last night, the Woodsworth home was filled with both of a vampire's scent and a nagual's stench. It gave me a lot of impressions, that it piqued more of my inquisitiveness. Is Alva working with vampires and nagualli? Wolves never trust and work with other beings, that I assume Alva wouldn't work alongside a vampire and a nagual if she is one. Suspicious and very much concerning, I am more than anxious given that my Luna is in the middle of them all.

"The area is clear, Alpha", David whispered.

"Alpha, this city has never been disturbed by vamps for a long time. Why do you think they are appearing now? And a Nagua? I hate those creatures they…", Cory mumbled as David shushed him with his finger.

"Coryyy… someone might hear us", David kept Cory's mouth shut.

"I'll just be up for a second", I closed my eyes sniffing the wind. I could taste uncertainty circling around. "Just keep on checking the area. Something's not right here", I said as the two ran off to survey the estate. Spotting Diana's room on the second floor, the lights are still on with a thought that she's still awake. I tapped my pocket checking for the box that I brought along for my Luna, then searched around for small rocks. I could only blame myself for acting like a head-over-heels lovestruck teenager, but I never had the chance to get her number.

Picking up the round ones, I threw tiny rocks one by one at her window, and kept doing so until she came out. Diana, in a white silk robe and hair laid down, peeked out of her large white double-pane windows and opened them as soon as she saw me. The soft breeze lifted her hair, wafting across her gentle bare face. And that was enough to get me totally smitten.

"What are you doing here?", Diana widened her eyes seeing me.

"Back up, I'm going in", gaining my momentum in my leather shoes, I winded up and dashed towards the wall. Diana backed away, as I leap high up climbing her room through her open window. Landing perfectly on the window pane while I hold on to its side frames, I looked around and saw how lush and opulent her room is. There were so many details, intricate patterns and elegant chandeliers screaming in luxury. Something that doesn't entirely fit her personality.

"Are you out of your mind??", Diana said as she tie her white silk robe close covering her slender body. Looking out the door with evident nervousness, as she rush towards me pulling me down the window.

"Yes..", removing my coat, tossing it on her side table, and hopped on her soft white bed. Her scent lingered on her pillows just as I thought.

"What are you doing here?", she whispered panically, dashing to the window, and gently closing them.

"I missed you already, that's what", biting my lower lip, I grabbed her on her wrist, pulled her close to me in between my legs, and wrapped my arms around her small waist. Burying my face on the softness of her chest taking in all of her intoxicating scent, I found my bliss. Diana patted my head like a puppy. If this is heaven, then I guess I better start getting used to it. Lifting my chin up, Diana smiled with her tightened jaw, holding back her urge to laugh. "Find me cute or you're falling in love?", I teased her, fancying her cheeks which were slowly giving off that pinkish glow.

"We just had dinner."

"You call that dinner? You left without finishing your plate. The dessert wasn't even served."

"You are incredibly crazy, Scott. My mother might see you here. It wouldn't be a pleasant sight for man to be seen in a woman's room", Diana said, as she push me on the bed.

"Then you do agree that we should get married?", I laid down on my back, supporting my body with my elbows, smiling at how conservative she is. "Well, it's not that I'm desperate or anything but, I'm just worried that they might think so badly of you if they sees me here all the time", I pulled Diana onto the bed as she lay beside me. She chuckled softly, as if it was the most beautiful music I ever heard. Facing each other on our sides, I tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, captivated with her perfectly unadorned beauty. "Am I the first guy here?".

"Of course, Hendrick comes here too. The butler", she smiled sweetly as ever with her hand supporting her head. "I've never been in a relationship before, and never invited a man in my room.", Diana have this spellbinding stare that easily melts my heart. I hoped that time would stop this perfect moment.

"Are you…", I cleared my throat before I continued. "seducing me? because I'm not very easy to get", I opened a few buttons of my polo, sporting a playful smirk. She gave me a hard slap on my chest, making me stop. "Oh.. I have something for you..", we both sat up facing each other. She looked eager to see what I brought for her as she wait. I took the box that I have been carrying all night out of my pocket, and saw her gaze shift from me to the box. I opened it slowly, and saw delight in her eyes.

"It's pretty...", Diana's eyes twinkled, staring at the ornament inside the box.

"I never saw you wear anything like an earring, a ring or a necklace. And I guess, this moon phase watch would be very useful for a doctor like you", I took the black leather gold watch with diamond embellishments from the box and fitted it on her wrist. She grazed on the blue moon phase display on the watch as she smile with her eyes. "This is me reminding you that time is essential, we can't get it back when it's lost", I smiled wetting my lips, as I stare on hers.

"Are you telling me you want an answer now?", her gaze became serious as she slowly move close to me. I swallowed a lump in my throat, and could hear my heart beat so loud. I waited until her lips touch mine when suddenly...

Someone knocked on the door. I heard her chuckle softly then immediately, she pulled me behind the thick curtains to hide. Keeping myself hidden, I peeked at Diana fixing her robe and combing her hair with her fingers as she clear her throat. "Come in", she said as she sat on the bed like nothing happened.

"It's past 10 in the evening and you're still up", Alva came in with a glass of milk placing it on the side table. She was wearing a very long black laced robe, a type that when you see her in the dark, you would get shivers down your spine.

"I was about to, mother", Diana said, as she stood up to face her wicked looking mother. Seeing them together, they did look like the black swan and white from the play I watched recently. As I peer through the curtains, I noticed Alva glanced at the watch Diana's wearing.

"Do not be bothered by the Devlins. I will take care of them. What's this?.", her mother held Diana's hand up, staring at the watch I gave her.

"It's a gift. I was just trying it on", Diana replied, in a very bland manner. That's when I was cued to understand why Diana isn't too expressive with Alva. Diana lets Alva only see what she wants her to see.

Alva looked around the room as I stay quiet, holding my breath as if my wolf scent doesn't fill the air. "Ugly. Anyway, that boy Scott Devlin, be wary of him. He may be a good shot but, he's completely a waste of time", she clicked her tongue as she walked herself out.

"You know me well. I don't waste my time. Good night, mother", Diana said. I waited for the sound of the door to close before I stepped out of the curtains. Hopping on the bed, I reached for the milk Alva left on Diana's side table, and sniffed the liquid. "Urgh!", it smelled so awful. It was sharp and festering, lingering in the nostrils. By the strength of its scent, I can easily tell that the contents were natural and potent. On my feet, I headed my way to the bathroom bringing along the glass of awful milk. "Don't drink this. It has a sleeping essence that's strong enough to take a horse down.", I poured the milk in the toilet, and flushed it.

"It does?", Diana sat on the bed as she watch me sullenly. "She gives me that every night.", she exhaled sharply, with knitted brows.

"Go to sleep, I'll watch you", I went back on the bed, and pulled her in, and tucked her under the covers.

"Scott.. take me out of here", Diana said, before she closed her eyes.
