"So Derek, what is your motivation? What motivates you in building this empire you have here?,"Jocelyn asked as she brought out her jotter and pen.
"My mom, she has always been there for me and I did not want to see her suffer. I remember when she was mocked for being poor and having a child out of wedlock but she still did not care. She gave me everything and she made me everything that I am today and I will forever be grateful to her. I built this empire for her," Derek replied with a straight face.
"That is very touching and beautiful, so that means you never met your dad," Jocelyn asked, a bit afraid of pushing too far.
"I never knew him and I don't want to know him. If he cared about us, he would have come after all these years," Derek replied, still maintaining his straightforward face and Jocelyn was relieved to know that she did not hurt him with her question.
"Ok Derek, I got Intel on your new business deal with popular businessman Mr Brown Michigan,what can you tell me about that?," Jocelyn asked and he was a bit taken aback by it.
"Well I have a very important deal and Mr Michigan will play a very important role in making it work," Derek replied, almost stuttering as he was not expecting her to ask so quickly.
"Are you aware of the fact that he is a dangerous man and is also involved in illegal practices?," Jocelyn asked him with a hint of disappointment in her voice.
"Mr Michigan's other business dealings, whether illegal or not, do not concern me. I am only concerned about our business deal which is very legal, so you may want to mind your tone miss Lance," Derek replied, slightly annoyed by her question.
"I do not mean to annoy you Mr Walker, I just wanted to be sure. I am very sorry if my words annoyed you," she said in a lowly and calm voice which touched Derek and he started feeling guilty for what he said.
"I am sorry Jocelyn, I took this out of proportion," Derek responded as he took a sip out of his glass of wine.
"Okay Mr Walker, I am currently investigating Mr Michigan and I will need your help sir," Jocelyn said looking directly into his own eyes.
"First of all, call me Derek and next, You want me to spy on my business partner for you. Why do you think I will agree to do that?,"Derek asked, surprised by her question.
"You do not have to do that Mr Walker, oh I mean Derek. I just really would appreciate it if you did,"Jocelyn begged hoping for him to agree.
"You know Jocelyn,this job of yours is really dangerous. Mr Michigan could be after your life right now," Derek said, trying to make her see reason.
"I know that Derek and I signed up for it, I am really ready to lay down my life for the truth to be known by the people,"Jocelyn replied with a serious face.
"Wow Jocelyn, what of your family? Are you ready to lay their life for this cause you are chasing my dear?," Derek asked as he looked at her in amazement.
"My family will be alright, they will never hurt them. All they can do is threaten them but they cannot hurt them," Jocelyn spoke with confidence.
"You are very wrong about that Jocelyn, your family is in grave danger. Mr Michigan is not an easy going person, he will not only attack you but also attack your family and I am sure you do not want it to happen so please I ask of you, drop your investigation on him," Derek replied with care but Jocelyn was not having it.
"Wait, you want me to drop my investigation. Who told you that you have the right to ask me to do that or is there something you have with him that you do not want me to find out?," Jocelyn asked, slightly annoyed by his statement.
"I have nothing with him Jocelyn, I am just saying this for you to be alright and free from harm,"Derek replied as he saw her facial expressions.
"You want me to be alright? why do you care for me?You have only met me like twice and you think you have control over my life which you don't. This is not my first investigation and it will not be my last, I am never backing out of this one," Jocelyn replied, annoyed as she stood up and was ready to storm out of his office.
"If you die Jocelyn, that is the end so stop being stubborn and stop this dangerous war against the Michigans," Derek said, annoying her more and she started walking towards the door.
"This interview is over Mr Walker, I look forward to seeing you again," Jocelyn replied as she started walking towards the door.
"Jocelyn, stop being so stubborn Jocelyn," he called after her as she walked out of the room.
"Damn it, why is she so stubborn?," He yelled aloud as he went after her.
Jocelyn walked out of his office into a long hall. She was beginning to wonder how she would leave his gigantic office and her prayers were answered when she saw Brian coming in her direction.
"Brian!!," She called out and he was surprised to see her outside so soon.
"Miss Lance, are you done with your interview?," He asked surprised as he confirmed it was her.
"Yeah I am done, I seriously need to go home now but I cannot seem to find my way out of this place,"she replied and he stared at her confused.
"Is my boss aware of your leaving Miss Lance?," He asked her, confused and she became annoyed by his question.
"You know what, I will find my way out of here if you do not want to help me,"she replied angrily as she started walking away.
"Miss Lance, you cannot leave this building, it is not safe for you out there," Brian called after her as he started walking towards her.
"Stop following me Brian,you had a chance to help me but you didn't. you and your controlling boss should just leave me," she fired back at him leaving him speechless.
