Chapter One: The End and start of a new Beginning
December 31 2999.
A crowd gathered at an observatory site all wearing Googles and had a 70mm Telescope ready to watch a Comet shower named Hope.
They wore googles because the lights illuminated by the comets would be visible throughout the World. Also meant the where several kilometers away from the Comet shower place.
24:50:00 - 00:00:00 the End of 2999 and beginning of a new century, Hope would pass by earth and would be observable all around the world.
Those few 10 seconds were the best moment of my life. As the Comets flew by, a video of the memories of everything humanity had endured throughout the last 100 years were displayed on a screen.
00:00:00 after the sky wasn't illuminated by the Comets anymore but by the Moon. That is when the Chaos began from the Shadows. Monsters appeared and hence, given the name Shadow Ghouls.
On that day, the Shadow Ghouls had wiped out 5/7 of the Human population, the new highest Mass extinction rate in a day. On the first day of the new beginning, we were no longer at the top of the food chain the new Apex predators have arrived!
Just when humanity lost all hope and prepared for their inevitable death, something happened, something that would alter the course of Human history.
A miracle is what some might call it, but I refer to it as an unexplainable supernatural event which made the remaining humans all around the world awakened abilities beyond human understanding. Some could move boulders with their minds, others conjure flame from of thin air.
Then there were those who could make nations go against each other with a single word. These people, people I wish I could be a part of, are called Awakeners.
Sometimes I ask myself if life was unfair to all, like everyone says it is, then why is it that everybody else was granted a gift except me?
April 23, 3000, I had come to the realization that I wasn't an awakener. In this chaotic age, I was a Defect. Knowing that my end had drawn closer, the only way for me to survive was to leach on the awakeners.
That was easier said than done because I was a defect and didn't come as a surprise that no one wanted to recruit me. I truly do not know why I am still alive, even after being used as bait countless times and going through multiple near-death experiences.
Then again, all this makes me want to survive more. Seeing everyone trying so hard to get rid of a rodent like me brings me pleasure.
Though most people have abandoned technology, I hadn't no I couldn't. Before the world had plunged into an era of Chaos, I had been a genius, though never acknowledged because didn't have a huge background backing me up, but I had developed a medicine that could heal one from severe injuries in a few minutes.
That was one of the main reason I was still alive because it was very helpful in raids, were mages weren't very helpful and a bait was required
