''Old man!'' Carl interrupted ''Where's that book? I didn't find it''
De Xerxes set my hand free ''Find it! So you are searching for a specific book!''
''Yeah obviously, why would I search for a random book''
''Well, you just came here and asked for a book then went up, I guessed you wanted to find a book of how to be a maid or how to make a chicken soup''
''That would be a book for master''
That's so many stressed books there, and wait did I just got insulted or he stated it was my next volume he is searching for.
''You two seems real close'' I remark between their conversation, Carl acted more lively than usual.
''Hahahahaahe'' De Xerxes put a laughing face
''We aren't'' Carl spoke in a stone face.
''He is my disciple after all ''De Xerxes spoke ''Didn't he inform you of this old man of his!''
I shook my hand ''Nay, Nay, he never did'' my eyes then sparkled ''But for you to be his mentor!'' I looked toward Carl ''No wonder he is such a competent man''
''Thank you'' Carl's face didn't show a flattered expression.
''Hahahahe, you are embarrassing my little Carl''
(This Carl! Embarrassed! It so unlikely that he have such an emotion.) I thought when looking at his expressionless face.
''But you are also the interesting fellow'' De Xerxes added ''Freiya...I wondered how Vidal's son would be, but to think he is just as wonderful'' He talks friendly about my father, so he closely knows him as I thought.
He put one hand on my shoulder ''I'm thankful that my little boy found a friend''
''Old man'' Carl interrupted ''Do you have it or not!''
''But can you all give him less work! he rarely come by. And he always seems stressed to go back''
''I would gladly volunteer for some more, merely to not come here'' Carl answered
''You're hurting this old man's feeling. You should really be vigilent to treat the elders, they can easily die from emotional damage''
''You already lived enough, and I already learned everything you have to offer''
The way they joke with each other, I can't understand it.
De Xerxes caressed his beard ''So wish book is it?''
''The 999 ways to kill an immortal'' I answered
''It's a serie if I'm not mistaken''
''Yes it is, but I'm missing the ninety first volume''
''Oooh, the last! I remember Vidal buying them all cause his son liked them''
''Oh sure, it's amazing. Yet it was my father who told me I can find the rest in your shop''
''No, I'm certain he bought them all''
''To be certain, you said it was 91 volumes!''
''Yes, I know every book and every page of it. I read them myself after all, so if it was an other volume cause I sensed the ending wasn't right, I would've searched for it''
He is right, as a librarian he needs to know the works he have, to make recommandations or to inform customers where they can find what they want. Even if he didn't read them he will still have a general idea, but you will never forget a book you read and liked. Dedicating time to read such a long story, he really did like it.
I have to go back and search thoroughly, the worst would be that the volume was lost but I doubt that.
''I have other stories but they are not as exciting as the ones your dad already got you'' De Xerxes tried to cheer me up ''So I recommend for you'' he went and started searching on the spells books on the shelf. He reached to a book and lift it ''This. It's origin magic. And as I suppose you know, you can borrow power from entities to cast it. It is a really fun concept considering what we talked about earlier, you can use stories to upgrade it. The only limit is your imagination''
Yeah it is really fun to come with new ideas. Origin magic works the same as retro-magic, the difference is that you use imaginary beings to borrow power from. The set back is that your opponent needs to know about the figure you chose or for other people you don't know to acknowledge the existence of that being. You can accomplish that by publishing your idea, basically being a writer, or using myths, legends and stories.
Obviously retro-magic is more powerful cause it uses an existence, the older and powerful it is, the more efficient your magic will be. The previous set backs are also lifted, even if no one believes in the truth, the truth is always the truth.
However only origin magic can produce huge caliber miracles. you can upgrade origin magic if you used what he told me 'everything is out there so it's real'. But the truth is a concept that can be changed, the truth I was talking about earlier is history or time. Existence is far more complicated.
Magic books only have the formulas to help you construct your toughs in a way to exteriorize them into the world. To make a fire for exemple without magic you need a certain technique, for magic you need to think in a specific manner. You can't accomplish anything without learning.
''If you don't have the book we came here for don't try to sell us other things'' Carl looked annoyed. He is so considerate. ''We will go now, we are late''
I indicated for Carl to wait a moment. ''That book sure will be amazing since you recommend it, but (I can't use any magic formulas) I would ask for an item''. He doesn't know that I have no affinity for magic, so I won't tell him if father didn't inform him.
De Xerxes put the book on its place ''Do you have something specific in mind?''
''Something to help with construction magic''
''I have something to match with your style ''
''It's for my little sister actually. Can you show me a gift fitting a girl?''
''A bracelet would be practical'' Carl added
''Hmm..'' De Xexes caressed his beard ''I have the perfect thing for you'' he did a slight follow me gesture.
He led me to where the items were while Carl went toward the stairs to wait. It was a showcase full of pendants, rings, bracelets and others.
He opened the glass and started searching before retrieving an armlet ''This would suit a little girl better. It's green cyan so I feel like she would like it, it's your eye colour after all'' it has a metallic figure on the middle and two strings who complete each other in a bird eating a crescent. It had other weird figures but it had an ore green or blue colour.
''You are right, she really does like ocean blue colour, but I doubt it's because of my eyes''
''You really doesn't know anything about little sisters'' De Xexes started laughing
''So how mush is it?''
''No no, it's fine''
''I insist''
''aheehe..'' he sighed seing my determined face ''Two golden coins''
I pull out my money sack and give him tree coins ''I will also grab some chocolate on my way out''
''Feel free... and since it's your first time paying me a visit I would give you a gift'' he pull out a ring in the same colour as the armlet ''It's on the house, and I insist you take it''
I can't possibly deny a gift ''Thank you, I would pay you a visit if Carl wasn't free''
He put the ring on the palm of my hand ''You are so welcome''. I put it then on my ring finger, it was a perfect fit. To guess my ring size by just a glance! He is an expert.
He wrapped up the armlet and put it on a nice packaging then handed it to me.
After saying goodbye I rejoined Carl for us to head back. It was indicating 1 pm on the clock above the exit, lunch serves at 3 pm, I held him back more than planned.
We got out after I grabbed the strawberry flavoured chocolates. We went from another road to get quickly to the castle.
[...]
"if you would excuse me" Carl was heading toward the kitchen after we took off our hoods beside the entrance.
"If you could" I handed him the chocolate pack "Put it on the refrigerator for me."
He took it and disappear on the path while I headed to my room.
I put my sister's gift on the desk, grabbed my house shoes before I took off my boots. Yes I should've took them off before stepping in my room, however preserving the packaging was the first thing to come to mind.
I put the boots on their small window. It works as an aired space to maintain them fresh, and if my feet were sweaty the smell doesn't invade my room.
I loosned my blouse then jumped on the soft comfy bed. ''Aaagh'' I stretched on my stomach ''Going out was sure exhausting''. I crossed my arms under my chin and stayed put contemplating the headboard slat and the white pads. They were a little far cause I kept my feet out the mattress.
(I didn't find my book, but well, I met a non typical individual....).It was something new that made me realize how ignorant I am shutting my self here alone and dreaming of fictional characters
'' Vampires! Kukukuke'' I laughed silently during my rise up. I still find it ridiculous but I somewhat believe him.
I sat down while my feet touched the cold ground ( I need to tighten up my practice to be eligible to pass the hunters exams) I started unbuttoning my blouse ( for me to be able to pursue the world's wonders). I got up, took of the blouse and tossed it on the bed (For that no other distraction okay!) ''Okay!'' I got hipped up.
I pulled down my pants and started removing them on my way to the bath (But I will finish this story, since it's just one volume left. I will search for it after lunch). I sent them flying to the ground. I will tidy the room after taking a shower, besides there is no need to act elegant when no one is watching. Moroever they are already wrinkled from the chasing earlier.
The bath was relaxing, hot to slightly feel my skin burning tingling. I like this stingy feeling fogged by my deep planing of how to become stronger, mixed by a little rage against my weakness. I feel wraped up on a world of steam peopled by thoughts and dreams.
I take long showers, thus I headed to the dinning hall right after I put a new pair of clothes. I also grabbed the tossed clothes, folded them and put them with the dirty laundry.
There was no one there. I made myself confortable waiting for them. Carl was the first one to come from the door, he set up the table silently then went back to get the dish.
My dad went in ''You got her early'' he had a note book on his carrying.
''Hello father!''
''Yes, hello son'' he went and installed on his chair. He put the note book on the table ''So did your quest bloom?''
''Yes, but it was fruitless''
''I see, but how was the tree?''
''It's gigantic and have a nice shadow. To think I missed it when it was in the yard! I should look more often out of my room. How did you stumble on it?''
''It found me.... I will tell you the story another time'' my father said when looking at my eyes screaming 'I want more'.
''Can I visit him when you are gone!''
''Of course, you have my permission. But I need to see results on your end''
''Don't worry, I will try to reach your expectations'' ''But why till now?'' he could have just sent Carl to get me the book, but he wanted me to meet the man. Thinking about it now, maybe I should have accepted the spell book, but then Carl knew nothing. I don't understand.
''I felt the time fitting to get an outer help. I wanted you to try and fail on your own, but now it changed....if we could postpone the topic, I have tone of revisions to do''
I wanted to tell him thank you but I couldn't.
I head nodded. He opened the note and started examining his scribbling. That's why he pointed me early coming, he wanted to keep checking his presentation. It's rather a lot of words, he needs a day to resume and put them in his final thesis.
I drank my glass of water, purred an other and drank it. I added a third. The thirst finally caught up. I might annoyed him but he didn't seem to mind, he was totally absorbed.
About less than ten minutes, mom and sister joined us. Carl followed them and served the food, it was well cooked despite the narrow time he had to make it.
We took lunch in a quiet family atmosphere. Carl also join us in this meal. Lunch might have be the best if I wasn't sleepy right after I finish it.
''You are coming right!'' my sister eyes indicated to not let here down again
''I'm Puppy man's escort after all, and I really wanna have my wage''
'' okey!'' she said brightly ''I still have to make the cookies so don't come early''
'' Don't worry, he is really patient''
We completed our meal when mom told us to quit talking on the table.
