Xu Yun's favorite pastime was to take a magnifying glass and examine the grooves carved into the oak desks centuries ago.
He had also pushed open many unknown doors, searching for those lonely yet eternal spirits hiding in the shadows.
But unfortunately—
The spirits were nowhere to be found; one time, Xu Yun accidentally stumbled upon a couple seeking excitement behind one of those doors, and then…
The illusion shattered.
Ever since then—
The University of Cambridge library was still worthy of his respect, but that reverent, almost pilgrimage-like mindset was gone.
Later, Xu Yun dated another girlfriend, an exchange student, and that was when he honed his cooking skills.
She loved hanging out at the library, her favorite thing being the hunt for ancient volumes.
Once, she told Xu Yun in a poetic, artsy manner:
The books here are heavier and their colors deeper than those in other libraries, because the souls of authors and readers reside within them.
