The official goal of this project, on paper, was to measure the energy expenditure of primates living in trees, and then compare that to primates living on the ground.
That way, we top-of-the-food-chain primates could understand why other monkeys don't come down from the trees.
The school running the project was Fudan, with a budget of three million.
On top of that, there was quite a bit of embezzlement going on, and the total amount reached a truly staggering figure.
So in that environment, it was basically impossible not to make an example out of someone.
It just so happened that Zhou Shan was at the peak of his career then, so he became the unlucky one.
To be honest.
With Zhou Shan's status as an academician.
If he'd just admitted to his mistake, it wouldn't have affected his career going forward.
There are plenty of other cases to prove this.
The details are a bit sensitive, so I won't get into them here.
