It took several minutes before Elliana Lyle heard the sound of a car stopping right where they had just rested.
A group of people got out of the car, looked at the trampled shrubs and the footprints on the soft roadside soil, and concluded the direction they had gone.
The leader ordered, "Search," and a group of armed people rushed into the woods.
...
"Sister Joy… I… I don't think I can make it." Elliana was running out of energy, quickly pulled out the phone Eleanor gave her from her chest, and gasped, "Sister Joy, you go… go to the signal tower, don't… don't worry about me."
She realized now that she couldn't escape, and instead of dragging down Sister Joy with her, making it impossible for anyone to leave, it was better to stay behind and buy time for Sister Joy.
Even if only one of them escaped, it would be worth it.
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Joy Lyle was a bit upset after hearing this, then crouched down in front of her and commanded, "Get on."
