Next thing I knew I woke up in a forest. And yes I finally got rid of that damned itch. I looked around. All I saw were trees, something else than flames I guess. It will take a long while before I got tired of this view.
So I started talking to my system again to get an idea of where I was.
But first: ´hey system, can I call you something else? It is starting to bother me to keep calling you that.´
"Yes, you can call me anything you want, I identify as female by the way."
´Euh thanks for clarifying I guess haha. I will start calling you Hope as that was the thing I lost before I found you. So is there a way for me to see where I am?´
"Yes, you are in a forest besides Orario. Just keep walking straight right now and you will get there. And I like the name Cain hihi."
Euhh not expecting such a comment at the end, I was at a loss for words for a moment. So I just followed her instruction and I started walking again. But this time I knew that I was close, so I didn't mind.
After a while, I started seeing a gigantic tower, so I accelerated. Upon reaching the gate, I started preparing what I should say as it has been a while that I talked to somebody (aside from hope of course). I did receive some odd looks though. However, I ignored them and started waiting in the row.
When it was my turn to enter the city, I approached the guard.
'Why are you naked?´ asked the guard.
F*ck, I didn't think about that. My clothes burned in hell and it's not like I have any spares.
While I tried to think of a reason, I said: 'I am sorry I got robbed by bandits in the forest so I don't have anything left. Thankfully I could escape and reach this place.'
'Poor soul, here take this coat. And after that can you tell me what your name is and what your purpose in Orario is?' he asked.
I quickly answered: 'Thank you sir, my name is Cain, I wanted to become an adventurer. And I heard this is the best place for this purpose.'
'Ohh, I hear that often. Well, make sure you buy some proper clothes and then register at the adventurer guild, as I wouldn't want you to die immediately. Here I will give you some valis for the clothes, just pay me back when you become a successful adventurer. ', he said.
'I will, thank you again.', I responded.
Next, I ran to a clothing store. Upon reaching the door. I quickly bought some simple cheap black clothes and ran to the adventurer guild. I couldn't wait to gain strength and learn to use my new abilities.
While running I saw my reflection in a mirror. 'So that is how I looked', I thought. I had forgotten how I looked in the past due to the long time that passed in hell. I had long silver hair and amber eyes. I looked good If I said so myself haha. ´The amber eyes are new though, how did I get those?´
"Host has adopted some of the properties of hell, and some of your characteristics were changed as a result."
'Ohh thanks Hope!'
"No problem! hihi"
I finally reached the guild, and I went straight to the receptionist. He was an elf with green hair and light green eyes.
'Hi, welcome to the adventurer guild. My name is Christopher, how can I help you?'
'So that is an elf huh...' I thought.
'My name is Cain I was hoping to register as an adventurer.'
'Huh... Just Cain? No second name?´, Christopher asked.
'Yeah I lost my memory a while back and that is the only thing I remembered.'
That was the best excuse I could think of on the spot and I did lose some of my memories, so it is kind of true.
"Poor soul, I wish you luck. Just go to the back of the room and wait for me to call out for you. I will will arrange for someone to help you and explain the rest."
'Why do I keep hearing 'poor soul, first with the guard and now with Christopher. Don't tell me somebody else will call me that...', I thought.
Suddenly I heard a yell 'WHAT HE LOST HIS MEMORY???'. It was a girl in the back next to Christopher. 'Shhh! Eina stay quiet, do you want everybody to hear it?'
'Sorryyy... it is just so sad...', Eina said.
While shaking his head Christopher said, 'Cain, you can come she will help you out.'
While walking to them, I suddenly heard some of the other adventurers say '...such a poor soul, he lost his memory at such a young age...'.
'Again...', Cain thought while trying to ignore it.
He kept walking to Eina. After which, she started explaining to me the different things I had to do to become an adventurer.
I'll summarize the most important things that she explained, as it was really a mouthful. First I have to look for a familia. There are a couple of options that Eina told me like Hephaestus, Loki, Hermes, Ishtar, and so on.
Hesta wasn't there though, so this was probably before the main plot.
Next, I also got some information about the workings of the dungeon. But that was pretty simple, as you just had to study all the different monsters and the layout of the dungeon.
And lastly, I asked for some advice for a cheap place to sleep as I didn't have much money left. She recommended me to a rundown hotel next to an old abandoned church. I didn't mind however as nothing else fitted in my budget for the moment.
After thanking her, I immediately went there as I had a lot to think about, mostly about the familia that I would choose. After paying the hotel owner that was a middle-aged beast woman, I immediately went to sleep.
