Chapter 1 - CHAPTER ONE: DEMON!!!

Rain patters endlessly on the stony roadway fully packaged with a chilling wind that roars ferociously through a very dreary night.

The plays of lightning and sounds of thunderstorms already became a norm a few hours ago——the exact same time you were born.

Shouts of villagers echo through the stale and cold air jabbing at the fleeing silhouette manoeuvring his way through the night.

A mischievous lightning arcs its way to the ground bathing the silhouette and everyone around him in light. The man was dressed in a white priestly robe with a sword sheathed around his waist, running with a newly born baby in his arms. Two other priests chase after him while flanking him on both sides. The rest of the villagers carry pitchforks and torches which have already been put out by the rain. Though they were armed to the teeth , nothing was sharper than their vile mouth which was spouting curses at the fellow non-stop.

The man in question was muttering a prayer, his voice was almost faint compared to the shouting of the villagers.

He knew that he would be excommunicated from the Vatican after this, even if he was just currently a trainee. He knew he would be tagged as a dead man the moment he started running and that he would be made to run for the rest of his life, yet anytime he saw his son's innocent face, when he touches his soft and small cheeks when he heard his small and cute laugh he couldn't understand why but his legs kept moving, his eyes turned sharp with determination and adrenaline pumped through his veins...

He didn't stop…

He didn't turn back for a second…

His only son's life was at stake, and giving up was breaking the oath he made to the love of his life, his wife who died giving birth to her child, he was still trying out the spell he memorised when he sneaked a peek at the shelf while cleaning the Vatican old storage room, but for very obvious reasons it would not work no matter how much he tries it, but he still kept at it feeling it was only a matter before he comprehends what normal blue robed priests would have had a hard time understanding, it was the only non-violence related SSS level spell... The Lord's prayer.

[The Lord's prayer: Grants one wish per person.

it can only be used once in a person's life and will depend on the user's Mana depth]

"Pater noster, qui in caelis est, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum."

"Demon… we must burn the demon!!"

"Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo, et in terra. Panem quotidianum da nobis."

"Do not let them escape, we must kill the demon!!"

"Et dimitte nobis debitum nostrum, sicut et dimisisti debitoribus nostris."

"The demon must be burned alive!!"

"Et ne inducas nos in tempore tribulationis, sed libera nos a malo."

"DEMON!!"

"So…. What's your take?" A feminine voice rings out though hidden by the depth of darkness surrounding it

"He looks like a grown-up, 25 maybe 30 years of age. Time of death 7:23pm... he looks like he was run over by a stampeding herd of bison which is unlikely to happen in a city much less in an apartment, that's all I can tell before Max gets here" another voice answers, this time an older male one.

The voice that comes next is yours

"Why are you guys playing around in the dark, I never thought we had babies in the police department,stop playing around and let's get this mystery cleared up" you turn on the lights.

"No, no wai-" the female voice tries to stop you.

*~tingg*

With the lights on what greets you next is is a gory scene with blood sprayed all over the room and glasses of windows and furnitures broken

"Hiii~" (ahem, it wasn't you that screamed like a girl just now, it must be someone else…. Yes it must have been the new girl)

"Ahem, let- let's get back to the case shall we?" Gerald says while trying to hide his snicker (old man Gerald, the middle aged bastard who always takes credit for my work whenever he could, his a real mess to work with)

"Hahaha… I warned you" the beautiful newbie Rebecca laughs, (Rebecca, a newbie who just entered the department last month yet everyone already knows her, why? She always likes looking for juicy gossip when the boss isn't around.

Impression= 3/10

Beauty=8/10)

"Shut the fuck up both of you, can't you see you're in the presence of the dead. Show some respect at least" a stern woman enters the room from the balcony (oh that's right my boss is also here, Hannah, a cold beauty in her own sense, she never takes anything for granted and also likes to get the job done. I guess she came because this was something big..

Impression=5/10

Beauty=9/10)

"And you Walker, why are you late?" Boss stern eyes turns to you making you feel like a deer caught in headlights..

"Well, my migraine acted up again earlier this morning, and before I realised i was already at the hospital. The only reason  I was discharged was because I told the doctor that I had a case to solve which could affect the whole of humanity" Boss rolls her eyes at your explanation, it seems she was already used to you exaggerating things out of proportion.

"Alright Walker, come with me I have something to show you" her stoic face doesn't change even with all the blood and gore scattered about in the room.

You follow her to the balcony and look down below

'fuck… so high'

You were on the 77th floor of a skyscraper building, so you were kinda expecting that but not what came out of your boss's mouth next…

"Hey Max come here and take a look at this for me" boss voice calmy rings out the chilly night.

You head over to the brown dust on the railing, you bend your head and take a sniff…

'Huh? Smells like...footprints, must be a really strong landing for it to stay on the railings for so long with all the chilly wind out here, and how would someone even step on the railings from so high up, looking from the direction, the person must have jumped up to this floor, which is imposs—'

The next second your head recoils backwards, with both your hands holding the sides of your head, a small grunt escapes from your lips.

It felt like someone was using your brain as a punching bag and your ears kept ringing, yet your horror doesn't come from that but from the fact that...

'i understand everything now'

The scene plays in your head like a Netflix movie…

A tall man jumps on the railings of the 77th floor balcony of this very skyscraper, his coat flutters in the wind due to the air disturbance but his body remains balanced and relaxed, his face is covered by a black mask and his broad shoulders carry a sense of pride. He walks into the room majestically through the balcony door.

The lighting of the room was appropriate and a man was clicking on his laptop in all seriousness, if you look closer at his face it looks frightened even.

"You have failed at your mission Mark… and I've been sent by the council to punish you for it" the deep voice of the man sent chills down Mark's spine.

"Wai- wait… I'm almost done, I got a reading today and I'm sure that if you give me a few more days—no—one week.. if you give me one more week then I will get the job done, trust me, when have I ever failed you before" Mark's anxious voice rings out across all corners of the room, his voice kept rising the closer the stranger walks to him

"Sorry-" the masked man's hand reaches out to a frozen Mark who was sweating from every pore

-vampires don't do trust…"

BOOOM

"Hey Walker, you alright?" You hear the boss's voice which was faint a few moments ago becoming clearer.

Her hand is on your shoulder and a tinge of worry painting her beautifully stoic features

"Yeah, just- I think my migraine is acting up again" you say while shaking your head

"Don't worry about the case anymore I'll handle it, take a break for the next few days and go to the doctor" her authoritative voice rings out, she sounds pissed but you know that this is her best way if showing her concern so you smile at her

"I will"

"So, Walker will not be joining us for this case anymore, his migraine has been acting up too much recently, he will be taking a week off to rest and go to the doctor" boss explained to the rest, she looks at you while saying the last few words

Gerald and Rebecca both look at you with envy in their eyes. 'lucky bastard' they both thought in their head but instead they said

"Get well soon kid" Gerald fakes a smile

"Yeah it'll be nice to see up and going again soon" Rebecca flaunts her acting skills

"Yeah sure" I say blankly before walking out the door.

I tug at my coat as I walk out of the skyscraper. The whole walkway is filled with people moving about to their various destinations.

I quickly join the crowd, moving in oneness with them. Feeling a shiver I tug at my coat once again, the chilly air of winter knows no friend—or so people say.

I round a corner breaking off from the main road and into a dimly lit street, due to the silence in the air, my mind subconsciously replays what happened back at the victim's apartment.

'So vampires are real, does that mean werewolves and zombies are real too??

Fuck, is truck kun… no no, it can be real right?'

Max turned his head left and right, he was the only one on the street at the moment but he had an eerie feeling someone was watching him from the shadows.

'What am I thinking? truck kun isn't real'

Max shook his head to get rid of the thought but it seemed that it was a trigger for his head to start ringing again.

This time the migraine was worse, it felt like his head was about to explode and a chiming noise kept ringing in his ears

Max couldn't take it anymore and screamed but underneath that scream a deep, cracking voice spoke

[Looks like it's almost time….]
