"Okay, Mom," I chuckled, keeping my voice low so as not to wake Nefra. "I'll tell her."
"She's really alright?" I heard the hope in her voice.
"She's perfect." I glanced at my mate, comforted by how peaceful she was.
She'd fallen asleep soon after we left, and for the last two hours, she'd stayed that way. The toll of the past two days catching up with her.
Everything was different.
Some might tease me, but knowing Nefra loved me settled my soul. I didn't feel like I was running anymore.
"Well, thank you for calling. Steven said you weren't answering your phone, so I'm surprised to hear from you." It's true. I'd checked in on Penelope, and to reassure my family that Nefra's okay.
"Just wanted to check in on my princess," and I'm relieved she's okay. Part of me held some guilt for not being there, but it's not as if I've abandoned her. "Text me if you want us to pick anything up. That won't be until tomorrow afternoon though."
