Memories bring a subtle pain to a certain corner of his heart, and Geoffrey closes his eyes, leaning back on the car seat.
Jason Wood sits in the driver's seat and nervously asks, "Boss, where to now?" Afraid of saying the wrong thing when the boss is in a bad mood.
Geoffrey's voice comes out calm, "Isn't there a hotel here?"
"Staying at a hotel?"
"Yes."
"Understood."
Jason promptly starts the engine.
The car slowly moves towards the hotel, and through the rearview mirror, Jason notices Geoffrey's tired expression. He gathers courage to speak, "Boss, why don't you explain to Miss Quentin why you couldn't be with her when she was giving birth?"
Geoffrey's voice is deep and distant, "No matter the reason, not being by her side is still my failure."
"But Miss Quentin doesn't know how torn you were..."
"Stop talking, I haven't slept all night. I'm tired, take me to the hotel."
"Yes." Jason closes his mouth tightly.
How could Miss Quentin know?
