Chapter 7 - A KNOCK ON WOOD

Latini took a deep breath and pondered what to answer the little guy with.

"Well... Toradashi," she paused, unsure what to tell her child.

"Only father knows. Stop bothering Nana with your questions. Are you trying to avoid studying right now?" She heard her eldest son, Zari, spoke and heaved a sigh of relief. She looked back at little Huan who still had curious eyes but did not ask anymore.

"I did not- Nana!" Little Huan was vexed. He was just curious! His pretty mother saw his troubled look and smile. Grabbing his hand, she led him back to the books.

"Hmmm. Let's see. I don't have a way of checking your current aptitude so we'll have the basics of learning." She picked up a book and flipped the pages. Arriving at a certain page, she showed it to the child.

Little Huan looked and saw a page with illustrations on it. The drawings are arranged to form a set of exercise that should allow him to expel toxins from his body the books reads. He carefully marked the book and chose a corner in the room to read, his eyebrows furrowed together.

Happy to set Little Huan in his study, she now turned her gaze to the carefree Zari and stretched her arms to loosen up. The teenage boy saw this and he immediately said.

"I also want to read, Nana." He knelt down to pick up a book but Latini waived her hand and the pile of books were gone in an instant. Zari felt goosebumps all over his body as he felt his mother's gaze on him. He turned to look but only saw a red and black fox jump at him.

Zari dodged only at the last minute and his shirt almost got ripped. He looked on with fear as he saw the fox aim at him again. Feeling his legs, he ran out in his fastest speed. The fox nimbly followed, leaving behind a dazed Huan in the house. The little guy scratched his head and thought, 'good thing I only asked to read.' Then he continued to read his book

.

After a few minutes, an agonizing howl can be heard somewhere in the forest. A black wolf laid like a corpse on the soil. The faint rising and falling of its chest tells us, he is alive. Nearby, a set of long well-tanned legs walked towards the grieving wolf and stood beside it.

The wolf looked up and saw a pair of pretty eyes looking back at it. Her long ginger hair is tied into a pony and swaying with the wind. She wore a blood red cape that goes down to her feet. She took her cape of and showed her black form fitting bodysuit. It is decorated with some bright red design which glistens as she moves.

"Tsk, tsk. So weak." The woman in the suit muttered.

She threw her cape on the wolf which securely wrapped it and with a gesture of her hand, the blood red cape with the wolf inside started to float by the woman's side. Tapping it firmly, she sat on the covered wolf treating it like a cushion and the floating cape took off.

Little Huan is absorbed in reading his book when he heard a whoosh and raising his head, he jumped in time to avoid the impact of the flying object landing on his spot. It crashed forcefully on his little seat and wrecked it to pieces but he did not bother about it. He craned his neck and saw a red fluffy object on the center of the crash site.

From it emerged the woman in the black body suit we saw earlier in the forest. Her cape unrolled itself to reveal the head of a dizzy Zari. The cape remained on his body to cover unwanted parts to be seen by the little guy.

Little Huan shook his shoulders before he went to his room. When he got out, he's already carrying a blanket and used it to wrap Zari instead. This blanket has a tie which he used to dragged him to the bed.

Little Huan came back to continue reading but not before offering a comment to the lady in black body suit who is sitting comfortably on one of the chairs.

"I'm not sure if you just enjoy crashing our house or you still have not improved your driving skills, Nana."

The woman in the black bodysuit turned her head and we see the smiling face of his young mother, Latini. The red decorations on her bodysuit stirred and her suit seemed to melt into her body leaving enough to cover her private parts. Of course, little Huan would never see this as the moment the black suit started to disappear, the red decorations either widened or elongated to give her a flowing dress.

"Would you like to have a test drive with Nana?"

She continued watching the crash site again as she asked. Each fragment of the broken floor and wall are obediently lining up to attach itself to its previous spot and when everything has been completed, there was no sign of the house being destroyed.

After watching with much gusto, Latini stretched her body as she yawned and left little Huan to his business. She thought of making food for the family but deciding against it, she went to their room and slept. Her little son stared at their closed bedroom door and shook his head.

"Shouldn't you at least feed Sasha?" He queried. Latini opened the bedroom door and craned her head from the inside as she responded.

"She has enough on her room. And if you have time to ask that, you should check on her." Then she closed her door, locking it from the inside. Little Huan sighed in resignation and closed his book.

Ah, why does it feel like I'm the adult on this family. While Baba is out working, Mani went out, Ino passed out and Nana. Sigh. My poor little sister.

He sighed again and walked passed their kitchen and towards the back of their house. Moving further, he went out and stood in front of a solitary wall. This wall is made of wood and has hooks where Nana's hanging plants were placed. They had not stayed here for long yet so this wall doesn't have that much plant hanging on it and there is still a large space to fill.

Little Huan swung his little arms and smugly stared at the wooden wall. He shrugged then with a little move, he struck his tiny fists towards the wooden wall.
