"Phew…" Nate wiped the blood from his face, breathing heavily as the color slowly returned to his skin.
That was tough… Why am I so unlucky? That ambush almost killed me. I have to escape with everything I've got.
He ran as fast as he could, not knowing where his feet would take him. All that mattered was getting out.
He ran… and ran…
Around him, mercenaries clashed with wolves of all shapes, flames spreading across the camp, screams and cries echoing everywhere.
"This is your punishment. You deserve far worse." Nate muttered. And he was right—these were slavers, guilty of countless tortured, raped, and murdered victims.
Before long, he reached his destination: a stable full of terrified horses, neighing and kicking in panic.
Hope lit his face, and he sprinted faster—only for a blazing green slash to tear across the earth and through the camp in front of him.
Nate froze, stunned by the sheer power of the sweeping attack.
He turned left—and what he saw froze his heart.
A massive wolf, its fur shining pure white, the size of a bus, stood against a man clad in armor wielding a sword.
A green aura surrounded the armored man, radiating strength, yet what terrified Nate even more was the wolf… its intelligent eyes burning with killing intent.
He didn't linger. Nate dashed for the stables, grabbed one of the horses, calmed it as best he could, and leapt onto its back.
"Thankfully, this body remembers how to ride… whoever you were before, thank you."
He urged the horse into a gallop, heading for the shattered gate the giant wolf had torn apart. But as he neared it, a chill gripped his body—his heart raced, his skin crawled.
A single sideways glance from the colossal wolf nearly stopped his breath.
Meanwhile, the armored man knelt on one knee, a massive claw mark tearing through his chestplate, blood spilling from his mouth.
Nate didn't dare look back. He whipped the reins and burst through the gates, finally escaping the camp.
But his relief didn't last long…
"Awoooooooo…!" The giant wolf's howl shook the night.
Instantly, dozens of smaller wolves—ones Nate already knew well—lifted their heads and fixed their eyes on him.
It was the command of their master: Hunt him.
Nate didn't look back. He rode deeper into the great forest…
Where surprises and sorrows awaited.
