Chapter 33 - Sabbac-2

"And this is the last one." I said with a sigh as I watch the last of my customers leave the bar. Hopefully he wouldn't be driving, he was drunk enough to confuse his sister with a chair.

Oh well, not my problem.

Things were going good. As good as any legal business in Gotham could go anyway. I didn't have to deal with lots of fights, especially when Waylon was here. Being in the presence of a giant crocodile man made people think twice about starting shit, who could have thought?

They probably wouldn't think of starting fights if I took on my form either but... I really didn't want that attention. Raven and Etrigan may be considered heroes while being demons, but Raven wasn't known as a demon and looked human while Etrigan was considered to be just a weapon that Jason Blood used. So my demon form wouldn't exactly get me a warm welcome.

Not to mention it might bring that stupid kid Shazam on my head. I didn't want to fight kids, even if that kid was empowered by a lord of order slash god with powers of a greek god.

Anyway, now that the bar was closed; I could do my own thing. Heroes like Batman had their bat caves, and villains had their safe houses; me? I got myself a basement, warded with demonic magic to hide me from pretty much anyone. Courtesy of the evil wisdom of Belial.

Unlike the blessing of Shazam, the wisdom part of Sabbac also came with knowledge on magic being downloaded into my brain. The reason the other Sabbacs have never used proper magic was probably because they were a giant demon made out of muscle and were more interested in punching people. Or maybe the magic knowledge I had was from Lucifer but if so, I wasn't gonna think about it.

Getting off point, what I did in this basement was magic. Cause even though I claimed that I had no interest getting into the so called super hero life, I had no delusion that it wouldn't one day knock on my door. So I might as well make some preparations. It was better to be a soldier on a garden rather than a gardener in war after all.

Tonight's preparation, enchantments!

"Ok, why are we here again?" Wally West, in his guise as Kid Flash, asked his friend Robin who was looking towards a bar with some super sciency binoculars. Why did Robin get all the cool stuff?

"Cause this new place seems to have quite interesting customers these days. Including but not limited to Killer Croc, Bane, Mister Freeze and Catwoman." The boy wonder said with a smirk, rather proud of all the information he had gathered.

"Seriously, and the place is still standing?" Wally asked with a raised eyebrow, sure such a thing had happened more than once in his city. But the rogues of Flash tended to be a bit more... civilized compared to the rogues of Batman.

"Which is what made me interested, now we'll..."

"Do nothing." The young heroes whirled around in shock to meet the imposing sight of Gotham's true protector, Batman. And he look less than pleased... more so than usual.

"Ahh, hi." Robin squeaked out, much like a naughty child who just had been caught by their parent with their hand in the cookie jar and the whole kitchen full of cookie crumbles.

"We're going back to the cave, now." The dark knight said gruffly, his tone making it clear he wanted no argument. Unfortunately, after so long around him, Robin had built up an impressive amount of resistance against it.

"But Batman, that place is..."

"Where some of our rogues gather, I already am aware of that." Batman said in a tone that conveyed clearly that he was not impressed.

"But... why aren't we shutting it down now?" Robin asked, trying to understand his mentor while Kid Flash just looked awkward as he stood between the Gotham's dynamic duo.

"Because there have been no incident in the bar, meaning that it is a neutral ground where they cause no problems. Every moment they spend there is a moment they aren't going after innocents and I can go after those who do. I have surveillance around the bar, until there actually is an incident; I will make use of the time I got from not dealing with its customers." The dark knight said with a glare, making his partner fidget as he nodded.

"Now, back to the cave."

Well, that was definitely interesting. I snapped my fingers and the view I had of the duo of sidekicks and Batman disappeared. A rather convenient spell that allowed me to view those who are not too far from my position. It also showed that Batman didn't have anti magic surveillance gadget or enchantments on his person. Rather disappointing even if such a thing was technically in my favor.

His reasons for not going after my bar made me... not exactly happy but satisfied. It meant that I wouldn't have to deal with the pajama people for a hopefully long time.

'Hopefully' because I wasn't under some sort of illusion or mental illness, some moron would try to start shit in the bar one day and I would have to step in; making the rest of the pajama people aware of my existence. Add to that the fact that my powers were connected to demons, the first meeting would definitely have super hero trade mark idiot misunderstandings.

And since it was unlikely that I had plot armor like Batman, that understanding could very well lead to my death. Cause the 'no kill' rule of these heroes tended to be abandoned pretty easily when it comes to demons and monsters. Never had I thought there would be a day where the exception of the 'no kill' rule of heroes would bother me instead of the rule itself.

Which was why my newest project was so important for me. A way for me to protect myself and aid me in the use of my powers. A weapons that I created with alchemy and enchanted with demonic runes. It was nothing compared to the real magic weapons of those like Wonder Woman and her enemies, that much I was self aware to admit.

Getting hit with a hammer should still hurt them enough to get away though.
