Although Ian Lockwood understood the look in Vera Warner's eyes, he didn't follow her out immediately. Instead, he stayed behind to have a word with Faye Lockwood.

"Haven't you ever considered that they are very trustworthy people? You bribed his good friend to trick him. This was a meticulously planned deception from the very beginning. How can you blame someone else for being foolish? All this does is reveal your own malice."
