Victor Morgan charged directly into the crowd, pushed aside the people surrounding Vera Warner, and spread his arms to shield her with his body.
The action startled Vera. She looked up to see Victor Morgan glaring fiercely at the group, and a sudden warmth spread through her heart.
"Who are you? Why are you protecting this woman? She's the one who gave Mrs. Pemberton the poison that killed her and her two daughters! People at the hospital saw everything. What could this woman possibly be after?"
The newcomers were relatives of Patrick Peyton. They had come because they believed their loved one and her two young children had died, and it was all the fault of the person who gave them the poison.
After some investigation, they discovered the poison had come from Vera Warner, so the entire extended family had shown up to cause trouble for her.
