Vera Warner calmly walked over to Sylvia's desk. Sylvia Schuyler instinctively stepped aside, a motion that made her feel utterly humiliated.
Vera Warner sat down in her seat, picked up the resume Sylvia had tossed on the floor, and sneered, "You shouldn't be so quick to judge someone. You never know when they might be completely out of your league."
Her words dripped with sarcasm, throwing Sylvia's earlier condescension right back in her face.
Sylvia Schuyler shook her head. "I just can't fathom how you have this kind of power."
"Some people hide their true abilities, while others love to show off. I'm the former, and you're the latter. There's nothing to be surprised about. I just prefer a simple, easy-going life. But since you insisted on asking for it, I have no choice but to respond in kind."
