Victor Morgan saw that she seemed even more nervous than he was and asked, puzzled, "Vera, is there something you need to get to the bottom of with her? I didn't see you all afternoon. What were you up to?"
It was a difficult topic to broach, and Vera Warner couldn't bring herself to tell him. These were wounds in her heart, ones she couldn't just tear open for him to see.
"I'll tell you after I get everything figured out!"
Victor Morgan had always known Vera Warner kept many secrets. He stepped forward and took her hand. "Vera, I'll wait for the day you're ready to open your heart to me completely. I've told you before—no matter what happened in the past, I'm willing to bear it with you."
Vera Warner was grateful, but it pained her to even bring up such matters. Besides, she hadn't figured everything out herself yet, so how could she possibly explain it?
"I'll tell you someday. Can you please wait for me?"
