Vera Warner wasn't afraid of them coming after her, but Zola could not be put in danger. She cried out anxiously, "This child is innocent! Don't hurt him! If you have a problem, come after me!"
But the boss wasn't about to listen to her. Their boats had all been stopped, and with the children still on board, they would be in extreme danger if discovered.
"Don't be so anxious. Neither of you, mother or son, is getting away." As he spoke, the man threw Zola to the ground.
But just as the child was about to hit the ground, Vera Warner suddenly broke free from the loosened ropes. She lunged forward in an instant, catching Zola, then sent the man sprawling with a kick.
Sprawled on the ground, the boss roared in fury, "Everyone, get over here! The woman's broken free! Finish her and the kid, now! If she lives, we all die!"
