Chapter 28 - Chapter 27: Challenge

-Two days later, Libertas Military Academy-

"Are you insane, prof?! Why has Class Alpha always got the lion's share of everything? Class Beta and Class Charlie should have taken these subjugation missions too!"

"They're right, just because they faced those vampires outside the city weeks ago, the subjugation mission is always applicable only to them!"

Sephiram, along with his classmate who was assigned to the subjugation mission was summoned a moment ago by their instructor to the meeting room after class. The reason Westeria summoned them was that they would be debriefing the mission objective, alongside the soldiers who would be assigned to them. But when they entered said room, they didn't expect the scene in front of them.

Several students from other classes gathered in front of their instructor, trying to beg him whatever their request may be.

"I don't know where you found these rumors but," Westeria tried to reason with them, irritated. "Can you please go back to your respective classrooms before I call Axiom and Claus to force you out?"

"No way!" An angry girl replied. Westeria's eyes only twitched at the tone of her voice. "We will not be leaving here until you yield to our request!"

"Instructor, please consider!" One of the students pleaded. "We may not be your students in your class, but please, let us join in the subjugation mission as well."

"What's going on here, sir?" Sephiram asked their instructor, causing to interrupt the confrontation between him and the students from the other two classes. One of the groups stopped what they were saying to the instructor and looked at the new arrivals, while the other group glared at them in daggers.

"Good timing, Davis." Westeria sighed in relief. "I summoned you and your classmates here because I want to discuss your upcoming mission, but I never expected that students from Classes Beta and Charlie would find out about the subjugation mission, and they are clamoring for me to join them in the mission."

"Did their instructors know about this?" Marcus asked.

"Call our instructors whatever you want!" A boy in his teens with pompous hair roared at them. "We will not be leaving this room until you agree to our request!"

"What the hell are you talking about?" Misty was irritated. "You were not summoned here by our instructor so you should leave this room in an instant!"

"No," A teen boy with short ashy blond hair answered them in a cold, sharp tone. The student is leaning against the wall, arms crossed. His cold dark blue eyes looked at them as if they were only an eyesore. Sephiram looked at him with a glance and had a gut feeling that he had met the boy before. "We requested you to back out on this mission and let Class Beta handle it." He then looks at the other group. "I suggest that you should back off too, Class Charlie."

"Hah!" The pompous boy violently reacted to what the other student said. "You want a fight? Well then, we will settle this in the virtual training room to see which Class deserves to be assigned to the subjugation mission!" Then he looks at Westeria. "How's that sound, Prof? I hope that will change your mind."

Westeria's patience is running thin. He took out the communication device that was lying on the table and dialed a certain number. "Axiom, Claus." He called out to the two instructors on the comms. "Get your asses here in the meeting room now before I murder your students on purpose!"

"Wow, that's brutally scary~" Lena whispered as they saw their instructor hang up the comms. "Did teach going to do that to them?"

"They're not," Krishna answered but he turned his head and saw Ryan cowering behind Ciel's back. "Something's wrong, Tessalonica?"

"That guy in pompous hair," Ryan muttered speaking in a low tone. "Is Bernard Thaw. He's formerly from Class Lima. I heard he's a troublemaker and always picks fights not only with his classmates but with the instructors as well. Never thought that he was in Class Charlie now."

"And the guy that outright requested us to back out of the mission?" Ciel asked in curiosity.

"He's… my former classmate from Class Echo, Ciro Leonhart. He's cold as ice and so is his magic. He is in the top three of the first promotional exam before the Team Battle Exam. I heard he was transferred to Class Delta before the incident happened."

"I heard that he wished to be transferred to our class but was denied, so instead he was transferred to Class Beta," Marcus said, looking at said student who was now talking to his classmate. "Did he have any resentment towards you, Ryan?"

"Maybe." He answered but hid further behind Ciel. "I hope he doesn't see me after this fiasco."

The door of the meeting room opened, and Axiom and Claus entered. They were disappointed in their students when they gathered in front of Westeria.

"Class Beta, to your classrooms now!" Claus roared at his students. "You don't want to interrupt what Class Alpha is doing now, won't we."

"You too, Class Charlie." Axiom was also disappointed at this point. "Until you have an explanation to give, I will double your homework for today."

"Sir, we don't want to take the promotional exams forever," Bernard explained to them. "We want a real battle as well. It's unfair that Class Alpha will take those real vampires while we are stuck on the virtual ones."

"He's right! It's unfair to us, so we charged here in the meeting room to ask Sir Westeria to consider."

Axiom stops and ponders thus. He put his hand on his chin, realizing that what his students requested would be a great idea. "O-ho, now you give me a great idea."

"Don't tell me you too, Axiom?!" Westeria doesn't like what his fellow instructor is thinking. "I have no time for this nonsense, and I have a meeting today with my Class. This decision came from the president so-"

"I agree with what they say." Claus smiled. He agreed with Axiom as well.

"Bullshit!" Westeria roared and lost it. He is going to murder both after this. "Is this what you want? Fine! Do you want to have your students participate in the subjugation mission? Well then, meet us at the Virtual Training Room!"

"Now we're talking!" Axiom exclaimed in excitement. "So, what's the rule, Ricks?"

"Select six students from your respective class and meet us there at three." Westeria snarked.

"Well, we're on our way then," Axiom said while waving his hands at his students, motioning them to follow him out of the meeting room. They passed by Class Alpha while giving them mocking looks.

"See you later then," Claus said as he signaled his students to leave the room with him. They also passed by Class Alpha as well, Ciro turned his head and glanced at Sephiram for a moment then he averted his gaze back to his instructor and followed him out of the room.

When the last student was out of sight and the door closed behind them, Westeria sat on his chair, relieved from the stress given to him by the other classes. His students only looked at their instructor with a concerned look.

"Um, sir?" Sephiram asked, "It is okay to give in for them?"

"First of all, apologies for my outburst earlier." Westeria apologized to his students in a calm voice. "And second, we are not giving in to their request. This is a confidential mission given to us and not known to anyone, yet it reaches their ears. How could I explain this to the president?"

"Don't worry, sir," Krishna answered. "We will not lose to them. You said that we will meet them at three, right? Then we will be preparing."

"That would be less of my worries," Westeria stands up and walks towards the door. "I need to take a break for a while. You can use this room as you like."

"Thank you, sir." The students replied as Westeria left the room. The six students sat in their respective seats and only looked at each other in silence. This lasted for three minutes until Ciel spoke up awkwardly.

"Um, do we have a strategy first on how we beat them down?"

*

"Anissa!"

Anissa was walking towards the library when someone called her. "Yes?"

Carol and Mina run towards her and stop to catch their breath. "Finally, we catch up on you. You're going to the cafeteria, correct?"

"Yes, I am kind of hungry and I haven't eaten much since this morning," Anissa answered when a stomach growled. "Excuse me." She blushed.

"Come on girls, let's get some food, I'm famished too." Carol excitedly said as they started to walk along the school hallways.

"Say, did Seph and the others were summoned earlier this morning, right?" Mina asked the two girls when they descended the stairs. "It's been two hours now. The next class will start after our lunch break."

"Maybe the mission debriefing takes too long?" Carol puts her hand to her chin, thinking. "They must be hungry right now."

"I think we should get some food for them while we're in the cafeteria," Anissa suggested. "Oh, and some drinks too."

"Yeah," Mina and Carol agreed as they continued walking.

"Guys!" The three girls suddenly stopped in their tracks and turned their backs to see who was calling them. They saw Sasha along with the rest of their class walking towards them.

"Wait, Sasha?" Mina was confused about why the rest of the class was with her. "And everyone? What's going on?"

"Seems like sir Westeria summoned us to go to the Virtual Training Room immediately," Sasha said. "We asked him 'why the sudden summon?' and we were shocked by his answer."

The three girls looked at each other and then looked at Sasha with confusion on their faces. "What do you mean?"

Sasha sighed. Even she doesn't know what's going on either. "Classes Beta and Charlie challenged us to the Virtual Training grounds. They want to partake in the upcoming subjugation mission, and they want us to give up that privilege and give it to them."
