Chapter 597 - Ness Kingdom 7

Confusion, panic and a wide range of emotions came all at once for Dr Anders. "What... what... it was like I was in a lucid dream. Like I was watching from the outside and could not do anything. It was real?"

He could no longer process what had happened, and he was experiencing a panic attack. "Ha.... Hahh.... Hahhh..."

He couldn't help but vomit on the spot from the sight and smell coming from the dead body near him, and the strong smell of blood. "Haahk..."

There was little movement from him as he kept mumbling to himself. "What do I do? Ah... what do I do?"

Perhaps such an invention could be made use of for war to allow soldiers to fight better and fight without emotion, so that they would make fewer mistakes on the battlefield, but there were always limitations and drawbacks involved.

The present situation was just an example of that, especially when it could only perceive threats and situations where it would be required to take over.

If it wrongly judged the situation and was unable to distinguish who was an ally or enemy, then there would be no way to stop friendly fire from happening, just as there would be no way to stop innocents from getting caught up in it.

The combat mode and aiming function were very useful in many ways, but they needed to be used in a way that they could still be controlled.

Fail-safes needed to be put in place, and the functions could not be allowed too much control that they could activate without the user wishing for it, even to the point that they would have no way to reverse it once it happened.

It was very useful for a dangerous situation for responding to an imminent threat right away, but it would still be better to have failsafes in place to switch between having control and giving up control.

Perhaps if Vegapunk or someone else had been the one to work on it, then he could have found a way to make it work.

If more time and caution had been used in creating it with more care, then it would not have such major flaws.

Dr Anders certainly had the imagination and the ability to make such a thing a reality, but he was limited to what he could achieve with the skills he had and the time he had to be able to make it.

He had already been warned of the many dangers involving such a path, yet he still boldly chose to venture down it, believing that everything would work out.

The arrogance of scientists could lead to a lack of trust in scientific knowledge and a misunderstanding of scientific principles, resulting in a society that would be less informed and less capable of making decisions based on evidence.

That type of arrogance could hinder the development of new technologies and innovations, just as they could dismiss or ignore ideas that did not align with their own scientific understanding.

Believing that they knew everything and could bend it to work as they wanted would often be the result of their arrogance.

That type of thinking was usually quite dangerous, especially when they were unable to remain humble and accept that they did not know everything and that such things could not be so easily controlled to suit the needs or purpose of that scientist.

It was just another classic example of messing with things that they could not fully comprehend, but still letting their arrogance lead them toward doing it anyway, resulting in a situation that would ultimately go very wrong.

Perhaps there were cases where such risks being taken could lead to progress being made, but just as progress could be made, it could lead to a lot more disastrous outcomes.

The only reason Alyssia had been able to do similar things and get away with it was thanks to the assistance of her system, which let those outcomes be simulated so that she could find safer and more successful results.

It would not be so easy for others to achieve the same thing even if they went through trial and error multiple times.

Perhaps by the time they had tried a couple of times, they would have already caused too much damage to the point that any future success would not really be worth it.

Dr Anders had let his arrogance and pursuit of what he wanted to create lead him to his ruin and had caused him to take the life of the assistant whom he had spent so much time nurturing to pass on the knowledge he had.

All that he had done and built up was wiped out in an instant, just like that, and there was no way to take it back.

A loud banging started to come from outside his laboratory, causing him to panic over his present situation.

He was caught in the worst possible situation, and he could not so easily come up with a way to overcome it.

The protective doors of his laboratory opened despite his having locked them, as if they had been taken over by someone else.

Several figures walked inside without restraint as they saw what had been displayed before their very eyes.

A look of hopelessness was shown by Dr Anders, who was kneeling by the dead body of his assistant.

His hands and clothes were still covered in blood, and he was a complete mess compared to his previous appearance, which was more neat and scholarly.

His appearance began to change in an instant as his mechanical eye began to flash red once more.

The change took over once more once it spotted the people standing nearby who had been dressed in a blue uniform and had been holding various types of weapons or tools suited for subduing and restraining others.

Those small details were instantly perceived as a threat, causing the switch to be flipped as the directives took over to eliminate the threats.

Among those who were gathered was a merfolk woman who had carried a trident, and her lower body was that of an octopus, allowing her to walk on her tentacle lower body.

Another person standing near them was a seahorse Fishman who was holding up a trident of their own.

The other person who was a part of their team was much smaller and shorter than both of the adults who were in that room.

That person seemed like they were still just a child who had yet to fully mature, especially with how innocent they looked.

That person was of a race that appeared to share characteristics between Fishman and something else, like an oni from the horns that had grown out from her head, and it was Suigiri, who was known as the Water Oni due to her unique race that had been created by Alyssia.
