Chapter 23 - The Project, The House

3rd person POV

Donald upon learning that Mack had built a house for them was flush with emotions. He questioned Mack and cried with relief knowing he wasn't alone in his love. Mack thought that Donald was sad and might say no but was still concerned about Donald. Mack was sweet as ever leans over wiping Donald's tears even as he thought he was being rejected.

Donald reached up and pulled Mack in to plant his lips firmly on Macks. Donald had thought Mack would not know the significance of kissing, that he would have to lead even though he only knew what others had told him. The moment Mack felt Donald's lips on his he reached down and pulled Donald up so he wouldn't have to lean over.

Donald was shocked and leaned back gasping. Mack had pulled Donald up by his waist with both hands and then slid one hand under his thighs and the other up his back not letting Donald go for more than second or two. Donald feeling himself fall grabbed at Mack with his arms and legs.

Before Donald could wrap fully around Mack, a hand grabbed the back of his head and lips were on his. The desperation turned to passion feeling a hand support him and his legs wrap around Mack's waist. Mack felt the hands sliding from his shoulders to his hair a shiver running up his back. He pressed Donald close to him gentle but firm wanting to have Donald be part of him but not wanting to hurt him.

Mack loosened his hold and Donald took a moment to breath without distraction, only to finally realize how compromising of a position they were in. First blushing then asking to be put down.

"Would you like to see the house?" Mack was nervous and excited but did not want to push this in case it was all a dream, so he distracted Donald with the other thing occupying his mind.

"Give me a tour" Donald jumped at the chance for a distraction but was also looking forward to the gift. He always liked Macks' creations and was excited to see how Mack envisioned their future.

Facing Donalds' expectant eyes Mack, though proud of his creation, began to feel embarrassed.

"Remember it's not done yet" He led the way in "I haven't made all the furniture, I really only made the- " he felt extra embarrassed as he forced the words out in the open "the bed" His face turned red.

Donald smiled enjoying the blissful knowledge that Mack really loved him, though a tad surprised by how well Mack understood what it implied, he was beyond content with everything. It even somehow got even better as Mack spoke more than he had ever heard him speak. Donald decided not to push mack as he just took it all in.

The whole place was a log house, not surprising as Mack had always worked best with wood. It had a covered front porch with three steps up the front. It didn't have a door though it might later. there were two window openings on either side of the doorway. Donald could easily picture some chairs on the porch and him with a basket of herbs and Mack carving away.

Mack led the way in and Donald noticed the empty hearth on his left. It was surrounded by stone jutting out from the rest of the wall in a rounded manner. The wall the fireplace was connected to ended early before reaching the back wall. The back wall only had a doorway outside. On the right there was a hallway.

Mack lead him down the hallway jabbering on about the room on the right being the main room for him and that there was a room on the left in case they lived separately.

The main bedroom had one bed with a wooden frame clearly sized big enough to hold two Mac's it was clear to Donald that Mac knew more than he let on.

Not quite ready for that; Donald asked about the other side of the house as Mac turned and guided him the redness on the tips of Mac's ears was not missed by Donald.

Coming back up on the fireplace Donald commented "I like how open the space is"

Mac took a sigh of relief "I was hoping you might. Does that mean I shouldn't add a door to the kitchen?"

"Let's look in the kitchen and see". Donald walks past the stone wall and looks at the fairly simple kitchen an island table in the center some counters along the walls a spot for a basin of water along with a barrel so they they wouldn't need to travel too frequently to fetch water.

On the stone wall there was a pit that came out a little from the wall for a fire. Above that pit the wall jutted out as a chimney to catch the smoke from the Fire. The round indentation lead all the way up the wall in a swooping shape the mouth of the chimney above the fire much larger than the top of the wall. To the side of the chimney was a thin stone slab lying flat against the stone wall. It was longer than it was tall with what looked like a handle made of wood.

Donald noticed it was at just the right height for him to open so he did just that. Inside was a stone grate with space underneath that lead to the fireplace. Two more thin stone slabs were on either side of space with a stone handle at their tops. One in the top corner next to the chimney and the other just below the grate.

Mac look over and explained "This is an oven but I added some convenience features. I put a grate to set the bread or whatever is to be baked with a gap so wood can be placed below this lower piece here" Mac pointed at the thin stone slab with a handle in the bottom corner "Is to sweep the ashes into the chimney, but you can't do that without an opening so this" He pointed to the other stone slab "It opens up into the chimney so all the ashes can be swept away but the heat doesn't leak more than necessary"

Donald looked again and found that indeed the lower one smoothly moved left and right and the higher one could be lowered or raised to differing degrees.

Mac explained more "It can be set to the topmost notch for a gap at the bottom for sweeping the ashes. The second notch for just the smoke to go up chimney and hold most of the heat and I set two more notches for you to decide how much heat to hold"

Donald remembered talking once about wanting to try baking bread. It was something he said to fill the silence. Mac had to have looked into it as much as he could to build something. No matter if it worked this was now Donald's favorite part of the kitchen.

Donald grabbed Mac's arm as a gesture of gratitude Donald was overwhelmed with emotions and he didn't know how else to express them. Mac felt his heart was warm. Mac lead the way to the other side of the Kitchen.

"Is this door here for a pantry?"

"Yes and no, I set it up with a lot of shelves but I couldn't decide if it should be a pantry or an herb room so the room isn't quite done yet. If it is to be an herb room I was going to put windows in on the other side. If you want it as a pantry I can put a regular wall in."

"It can just be a pantry I don't need an herb room. Where would food be kept if it's an herb room?"

Mac pointed to the left opposite from the stone wall and the bedroom hallway. There was another door Donald didn't see as the wood paneled matching with the door. Despite mac pointing directly at it Donald still had a hard time seeing it.

"This door leads to a cellar that runs under the house" as Mac said this he pushed the wall where the door was and a small click as what looked like just a portion of the wall now protruded.

Donald was in awe. "How . . . Where . . . You know what never mind I don't think I could understand even if I tried. Why did you make the door so . . hidden"

"Well those that come through sometimes take our food without asking just because they are from a big group I thought it would be best to have a backup so they can't take all of it. I originally planned to make a small pantry as a front but as I was building it I noticed it get very nice indirect sunlight so I thought it might be better as an herd room"
