Ficool

Chapter 9 - Ghostly Figure

"What?" Everybody exclaimed.

"Yeah, what do you mean by that? Weren't you guys just suspecting me of being a traitor a few seconds ago? Are you not aware of how much could go wrong here?"

"We don't have time. Right now I need you and Neo to take Betty and round up the citizens so we can put them at the coliseum."

"Were you not listening? He could betray us, there is no way I am letting him go with Neo anywhere." Mona said.

"We don't have a choice, he is the only extra muscle we have. Plus I don't think that he can endanger the lives of us who have been taking care of his childhood friend."

"You sound like you planned for this." I put my hand on Tsame's head and made them lower their dagger. They then used their free hand to cling to me.

"I didn't know that empire would track you here, so I am just improvising."

"You are yet to prove to be smart enough to improvise." I continued to probe him because ever since I got my supreme eyes I kept seeing a black aura trying to mix in with his already green aura. Although there was nothing written on them I felt like I could read them. That and apart from Tsame everybody else had one solid aura.

"OH COME ON! Would you please stop trying to paint our captain as the villain of the situation that you caused and do something to help?" Sekai said as he got up from the ground. His aura was golden and it grew the longer he stared at me, another thing I saw was his name and it was written in red next to a skull that was also red. I instantly knew that it meant he had taken a life before.

It was a pity that there was no skull on Arnold's head, for a second there I almost told myself that he was the regressor. In any case, I still suspected him and planned to stay by their side a little longer, because if one thing was for certain is that Arnold did not have the aura of a normal human. So if he is not a regressor he might make an excellent first piece in my collection. Yes, I can't fail this mission but what I want more than passing is to create a legendary collection of powers.

"Fine," I sighed. "So what do you need me to do?"

"Are you really going to help us?" Asked Arnold.

"Say something meaningful before I change my mind."

"Okay, okay. Please take Neo and Mona and go with Betty and do that thing I said..."

"Teddy is not going anywhere without me," Tsame said finally letting go of me and stretching her arms out in between me Arnold. Sekai was standing next to them and looked like he was about to try and snap their neck at any moment. It made me wonder if they had already known about their special situation up there.

"Fine, Mona can stay behind and you can go them."

"BUT..." Mona tried to fight the order but Sekai grabbed her and silenced her. She lowered her head full of frustration and Arnold led us to Betty.

While inside the ship I tried so hard to convince myself not to hijack it. It would be possible using my powers but they might expose me for being a god. Betty flew us around the city and we collected the citizens in a cage, we then travelled back to the stadium to deliver them. Those who were close enough and healthy had to walk themselves there.

"What's up with you?" I asked Neo who was looking out of the window restlessly, she was sweating and I think I saw her eyes tremble as some tears gathered below them. She didn't look like was going to cry though, it felt like she put her foot on her toe, crossed her fingers and held on to hope with her tiny hands.

"Nothing," she said as she lowered her gaze. I wanted to see more of her, but her scarf that she had on her head was on the way. I leaned by the window and grabbed her hand.

"Are you afraid of me?"

"No." She hesitated.

"Then look at me."

...

"Alright I won't bother you," I let her go and turned to leave but she grabbed my arm and said to me, "stay, please stay with me."

I pulled her from the window and sat her on the nearest chair while I remained standing up. This was something the old man always did when asked for our troubles. It always felt like he was a huge and unbreakable wall between us and all the ailments of life.

"I was raised on this moon from childhood."

"Ah, I see." I didn't know what to say to her, I never had my home threatened before. No one had the guts to try us. "If it's your home you want to be protected I can guarantee you that."

"I heard from the others that you might betray us."

"What do you think?"

"I don't know."

"Do I look like a bad guy to you?"

"Well you are carrying around a coffin, you have a gun that never misses, and a mask in the form of a human skull. You are wearing all black and your cloak make you look like the grim reaper, your name is also not helping."

She looked at me and our eyes met, she quickly lowered her head and quick succession said. "You are also very tall but I never notice you until you say something and afterwards it feels like you are there even when you are not. It's like you a ghost."

She is a sharp one.

"So in the end you are just worried about me?"

"No."

It feels weird that she took her time to tell me about my appearance... was this girl looking at me the entire time?

"I was brought here on a trash ship when I was 9 years old."
