Chapter 12 - Solana, The Lato-Lato Girl

"Ahh!" Mayumi shouted.

"Hey! Why?" I asked Mayumi, and after a few seconds, her skin started to have burns.

"Let us take her to my ship!" said the golden-haired girl.

"She is suffering from severe erythema caused by extreme radiation poisoning. What did you do?" she asked, scanning Mayumi with a device on her wrist.

"We just kissed?" I replied, then quickly looked at the tablet gadget's quantum calendar to know our current inhabited time. It said 500 million B.C.

"We traveled through time," I added.

"Wow! Really? If you do not mind, may I have some samples of your genetic structure?" the golden-haired girl asked me.

She took a swab of mine and Mayumi's saliva and initiated some sort of DNA test. After she got the result, she knelt before me and bowed her head.

"Hey, cut it out! What is your name, anyway?" I asked, trying to push her away.

"Solana. I am an elementalis, a being of pure energy. I cannot believe Kali asked me to help you," she sobbed, her golden hair falling over her face.

"Kali? Who is that? Never mind, just help my friend, please!" I said, pointing at Mayumi, who was lying unconscious on the floor.

"You have been gone for so long, Kali. You do not remember anything, do you?" Solana said, wiping her eyes and moving to Mayumi's side.

"Stop calling me Kali! That is not my name!" I said, frustrated.

"Then what is your name?" she asked, looking at me with curiosity.

I shook my head. "I am Patricia Maggie Dela Cruz. Who is Kali?" I asked.

Solana looked at me with a mix of awe and sadness. "She is someone I knew from Lyra Aakaashganga, a place far away from here. You look exactly like her." She said, zooming out the hologram of the solar system and pointing at a spiral of stars.

I stared at the image, feeling a strange tug in my chest. "And what about you? How come you look like me too? We only have different hair colors. Are you my long-lost ancestor or something?" I joked, trying to lighten the mood.

Solana ignored my attempt at humor and changed the subject. "Your friend is in a critical condition. She is a new type of carbon-based life form, unlike anything I have ever seen. Her physical body cannot survive in this state. Where did you find her?" she asked, scanning Mayumi again.

I felt a surge of panic and anger. "What do you mean she cannot survive? You have to save her! She is my girlfriend!" I said, clutching Mayumi's hand.

Solana looked at me with sympathy. "I will do what I can, but I need to know more about her. Which graha did you come from?" she asked.

"Graha? What is that?" I asked, confused.

Solana showed me the hologram again. "We are here, next to Shani, one of the grahas." She pointed at Saturn, the ringed planet. "Grahas are the celestial bodies that orbit Surya. There are nine of them in this system." She explained.

I pointed at the blue-green sphere on the hologram. "We came from Earth. That is our graha." I said.

Solana blinked in disbelief. "Earth? You mean Prithvi? But that graha was just terraformed recently. There is no intelligent life there yet." She sounded amazed.

"I already told you before that we travel in time! Anyway, who cares about the future? My girlfriend is dying here and you are wasting time with your stupid questions. Can you not do anything to save her?" I said, sobbing.

Solana closed her eyes and muttered something under her breath. She began to glow brighter, like a star.

"Stupid Lyrians..." she whispered, then her glow faded.

"What did you say? What about Lyrians?" I asked, confused.

She shook her head. "Never mind, Kali. I have a solution, but it comes with a price."

"What is it? Tell me!" I said, desperate.

She took out a small toy that looked like two balls connected by a string. She called it Lato-Lato.

She started to swing it around, making a clicking sound.

"Your girlfriend needs draconian blood. It will heal her body, but she will die first," she said.

I grabbed her by the shoulders and yelled at her. "What the hell are you talking about? And stop playing with that thing! It is annoying! Just like you!"

She flinched and hid the toy behind her back. She looked scared.

"She will be reborn, Kali. Reborn as a new being. A hybrid of human and draconian. But there is no going back to what she was before," she said.
