They didn't rush in the direction they had picked, though. Instead, they took their time floating along the black hot sand of the spiritual dimension because they wanted to give the blood beasts time to come to them.
The air in the spiritual dimension was dry and hot. The sands were also hot.
The whole place looked and felt like the insides of a working oven. Everything was being baked to ashes.
But the heat isn't why the sand is black. The sand is black because of the corrosion of the impure spiritual energy. This impure spiritual energy is also why the wind is black.
Sometimes it rains in the spiritual dimension. But the rain clouds are always black, and raindrops might as well be droplets of black corrosive acid.
So the rain is usually avoided in the spiritual dimension. But even without the horror of the rain, the black sand is absorbing so much heat from the sun that it is hot enough to be used as fuel to cook.
