The people who sighed in relief after they heard the announcement were happy to live. But not everyone was happy to leave the battlefield.
There were people who were disappointed about leaving. This was either because they thought that it was a pity that they couldn't use their lives to bring down a legend or because thought that it was a pity that they were too weak to join the subsequent battle.
For Isaac, what he was feeling was disbelief. He couldn't believe that there was a god supporting the kingdom of Wessex.
He asked the ghostly lady, "Honored one, which God is supporting the kingdom of Wessex?"
She replied, "You don't need to know. It won't make much of a difference if you know because you're too weak. If anything, that kind of knowledge can even harm you. So it is best that you don't know."
She wasn't explaining this to only him. She was saying it to everyone else as an explanation for why they should withdraw.
