Chapter 9 - Chapter 8 — The Leviathan Awakens

The forest was alive with tension. Smoke and dust from the previous battles lingered in the air, and every rustle of leaves or snap of a branch sounded like a warning. Snow, Sara, Alex, Rayan, and their AAG forces advanced cautiously, scanning the terrain for signs of Drago and his companions. Their weapons glimmered in the fading sunlight, magic and tech humming in unison.

On the other side of the forest, Ido, Pelon, Abi, Yul, NJ, JS, and Drago moved silently, bruised and battered from their previous encounters. Every sense was on high alert. They could feel the pulse of the planet beneath them—a subtle vibration, almost like a warning.

"I don't like this," Yul muttered, eyes scanning the shadows. "Something's coming."

Drago's jaw tightened. "I can feel it too… and it's not human."

Before anyone could react further, the sky ruptured. A jagged rift tore open above the treetops, and the ground trembled violently. A roar unlike anything the world had heard before echoed through the forest—a roar that froze every adventurer and agent in place.

From the rift emerged Desufeióras, the Leviathan. Its body was enormous, longer than the tallest mountains and wide enough to cast a shadow over the entire battlefield. Waves of magical water clung to its form like armor, glowing faintly with the essence of the Fallen. Its eyes, deep and intelligent, scanned the forest as if sensing the presence of every soul below.

Saryu and Alpharion's watched from a distant cliff, cloaked in shadows. The Fallen of the Sky's council murmured among themselves, concerned by Leviathan's sudden appearance. "It has awakened," Saryu said, voice low. "The Leviathan… it's here to close the breach. It will disrupt everything, and no human or AAG agent can stop it." Alpharion's eyes never left the massive creature. "And yet, there is something else. An entity… unseen, watching. We must report this to the Council immediately."

Below, the AAG forces and Snow's group raised their weapons, attempting to advance, but the Leviathan's presence was suffocating. Magical pressure distorted the air, and even powerful agents struggled to maintain their footing. Snow's eyes narrowed. "Stay calm… focus!" she shouted, raising her blade.

The first clash erupted as Ido's group moved to intercept. Abi's energy shield flared, protecting NJ from a wave of kinetic blasts from the AAG. Pelon's bow lashed out, arrows infused with magical energy streaking through the chaos, striking agents and forcing them to scatter. Yul's two-handed hammer slammed into the ground, creating fissures that threw several soldiers off balance.

The battle intensified as Snow and Sara's group counterattacked. Alex conjured a storm of ice shards, cutting through foliage and striking with surgical precision. Rayan's twin blades glowed with red energy, cleaving through earth and stone, forcing the adventurers into defensive maneuvers. Sara's elemental powers twisted the forest terrain, vines lashing out, trees uprooting to block paths.

Blood, magical energy, and debris filled the air. Ido dashed at superhuman speeds, striking AAG agents one after another, leaving trails of afterimages. Pelon's arrows exploded on impact, creating concussive bursts that scattered enemy ranks. Abi's shields shattered the incoming spells, sparks flying with every strike. NJ and JS coordinated flawlessly, moving like extensions of each other, their attacks synchronized to exploit every opening.

Then, Desufeióras moved. The ground shook violently as the Leviathan's tail smashed into the forest, creating a shockwave that sent everyone stumbling. With a deafening roar, it cast a vortex imbued with pure magical energy.

The blast was cataclysmic.

Snow, Sara, Alex, Rayan, and the AAG forces were thrown violently to one side, crashing through trees and rocks, their shields barely holding against the force.

Ido, Pelon, Abi, Yul, NJ, JS, and Drago were hurled in the opposite direction. Branches tore at their clothes, rocks and debris slamming into their bodies. Pain lanced through them, but they gritted their teeth and pressed forward.

Amid the chaos, Drago signaled the group. "Go! Use the distraction! Get out of here!"

Ido's speed flared, spinning like a tornado to protect Pelon and Abi as Yul crushed massive boulders to block pursuers. NJ and JS moved to create illusions and misdirect the enemies, giving the group a precious head start. Within moments, they vanished deep into the forest, leaving behind only the echoes of their presence.

The Leviathan, its task complete, recoiled and plunged back into the rift. The sky sealed shut, leaving only ripples of residual energy and a battlefield littered with broken trees, shattered rocks, and magical scars.

From the cliffs, Saryu and Alpharion observed the aftermath. "They survived… and escaped," Saryu muttered. "The Leviathan's power has delayed their pursuers, but this is only the beginning."

Alpharion's eyes turned toward the distant sky. "And yet… that entity remains. We must alert the Council of the Fallen. Humans are becoming more dangerous than anticipated. The time for intervention is approaching."

The adventurers regrouped deep in the uncharted forest, bruised, bloodied, and exhausted. The canopy above was thick, the shadows long and twisting. Drago's eyes scanned the darkness, searching for signs of the AAG or Snow's group.

Pelon coughed, blood trickling from his lip. "That… that thing wasn't here to fight us. It was here for something else."

Ido's eyes narrowed. "Whatever it wanted… it gave us a chance. We can't waste it. Let's go deeper."

The forest fell unnaturally silent.

The echoes of Desufeióras vortex faded, the shattered trees settling into ruin as the Leviathan vanished and the sky sealed itself shut. On the ground below, the AAG and Snow's group struggled to rise from devastation, separated—too far apart, too disoriented—to pursue.

Ido and the others were gone.

High above the clouds, far beyond mortal sight, something moved.

It had no form that could be named—only a distortion, as if the sky itself recoiled around its presence. Stars dimmed where its gaze lingered. Space bent, not violently, but knowingly, like a predator leaning closer to observing prey that had just escaped the trap.

At the distant spires of the Fallen Council, Saryu stiffened.

"…It's still there," he said quietly.

Alpharion's wings trembled as his eyes traced the invisible pressure in the heavens. "That is no Fallen… no Guardian… no Leviathan."

The entity shifted.

Not descending.

Not retreating.

Watching.

Below, deep within the forest, Drago paused mid-step. The necklace at his chest burned ice-cold, pulsing once—slow, deliberate—as if answering a call it did not understand. Somewhere beyond the sky, something had noticed him and it was waiting.
