Chapter 8 - Absolute

Deciding my power still wasn't enough, I set my sights on the true finish line: one trillion years of training, exactly as promised on the day I arrived.

Time didn't pass any faster than before — Training Addict had already hit its ceiling — but it still flew by fast enough, and with the addiction running as strong as ever, I barely noticed the exact moment I crossed the finish line.

[ Congratulations! Host has completed 1,000,000,000,000 years of training. Final rewards will now be given! ]

My training is finally over.

For the first time in nine hundred billion years, let's check my status.

"System, status, please!"

As if that weren't enough, one final announcement appeared.

[ Announcement! Now that Host has completed training, Host may choose one of three ways to continue living.

3 - Ascend to Heaven and create a world of your own, governed by your own rules. Note: you may never leave that place again. ]

[ Host must choose within 1 day, or the System will choose at random. ]

Do I even need to think about it? Of course I'm picking option two.

Ding!

[ Good luck on a journey filled with anything but threats! ]

"W-wait, System, you can talk?!"

[...]

Oh. I guess that was just another announcement.

About ten seconds later, a blinding light surged up from beneath my feet and swallowed me whole.

Somewhere in the white, I found myself smiling. A trillion years, give or take, and I still remembered exactly what a red light looked like right before it changed. Funny, the things you carry with you into forever.
