Chapter 38 - Captain Marvel:Part 2

Study…

I entered the study behind Maria. Vers, Fury, and Talos are already inside, waiting for Maria to play the tape. Maria puts the CD in the computer tower and the computer begins loading the tape. A loading bar appears on the screen, with the bar moving slowly across the screen.

"What's happening?" Vers asked.

"It's loading. It takes time. This is not like the speed of technology in the 2020s." I said, looking back at the computer screen, with the tape almost loaded.

"Punch in the coordinates. 5229, -47, 8.768, 0.2." Lawson said, as an audio recording.

"Copy that. Where are we going Doc?" Vers asked, as an audio recording.

"My laboratory."

"Your laboratory? What do you mean?"

"Oh no."

"Is that... Wait, what is that? It's not showing up on my radar."

"Go Carol. Fly!"

"Let me help here." I said, typing away on the keyboard and moving the mouse to improve the audio and video quality. "Windows 95. Not my favorite thing in the world."

I had the computer screen show a flashback of the inside of the airplane, with Vers in the cockpit and Lawson directly behind her. Outside the window, Earth can be seen with other planes flying around it.

"There we go." I said, smugly. "We should be set."

"That's no MIG, Lawson. Who the hell are they?" Vers asked, on screen.

"Those are the bad guys. Fly faster, now." Lawson said, on screen.

"Yes, ma'am." Vers said, on screen.

Vers on the computer screen pushes a lever forward, causing the plane to speed up. The plane following them also speeds up to catch them. The dogfight between the two planes continues, with Vers pushing the lever sideways in an effort to escape the other plane.

"What do they want?" Vers asked, on screen.

"Me. My work. I never should have brought you along."

"Here come some G's." Vers said, on screen.

Vers on the computer screen pulls the lever backwards, causing the plane to flip in the air. After the flip, Vers and Lawson are trailing the other plane. However, when Vers fires the other plane fires back.

"They're firing backward. Hold on!" Vers yelled, on screen.

Vers on the computer screen pushes the lever sideways and the plane tilts into another revolution. However, the plane is hit and the wing bursts into flames. Vers struggles to regain control of the plane, but fails to do so.

"Bail out! Bail out! Bail out! Stay with me Lawson!" Vers cried, on screen.

Vers on the computer screen ejects the cockpit from the plane, and struggles to regain control. Once Vers has aligned the plane parallel to the ground, the plane crashes into a beach.

"Danvers, do you copy?" Maria asked, on screen.

"Yeah, I copy. We hit ground." Vers said, on screen.

"Can anyone hear me?"

"Yeah. I copy! Doc?" Vers asked, on screen.

Vers on the computer screen climbs out of the plane and attends to Lawson, whose head is slumped against her chest. Once Vers removes Lawson's helmet, she notices something is wrong.

"Your blood... it's blue." Vers said, on screen.

"Yeah, but, uh...how's my hair? Help me out." Lawson said, on screen.

Vers on the computer screen unbuckles Lawson's seatbelt and helps her out of the plane.

"I have to destroy it before they get here." Lawson said, on screen.

Vers on the computer screen helps Lawson walk a few steps away from the plane before Lawson falls over. Vers leans over Lawson and tries to help her stand up, but Lawson refuses.

"What? Lawson?" Vers asked, on screen.

"You remember what I said about our work here? What it's for?" Lawson asked, on screen.

"To end wars?"

"Yeah. But the wars are bigger than you know. Damn it! My name is not Lawson. My real name, is Mar-Vell and I come from a planet called Hala."

"I would say that you're delusional, but we just got shot down by a spaceship and your blood is blue."

"Listen, I spent half my life fighting a shameful war. Now skedaddle before you give me any more regrets. Just remember the coordinates, okay? You've got to save them without me."

"Save who? How?"

Lawson on the computer screen ignores Vers' questions and pulls a gun out of her jacket.

"I've got to blow this engine before they find it." Lawson said, on screen.

Lawson on the computer screen sits up and attempts to shoot the plane, but she is shot through the heart by an attacker from the other ship. Vers watches Lawson fall and sits there in shot watching the assailant. Suddenly, Vers reaches for Lawson's gun and points in the direction of the attacker. Vers switches between looking at Lawson lying on the ground and the direction of the attacker. Eventually, Yon-Rogg appears walking towards Vers and Lawson. Vers, with her gun drawn, slowly walks towards the plane.

"We have no interest in hurting you." Yon-Rogg said, on screen.

"No?! Because all the shooting kinda gave me the wrong impression!" Vers said, on screen.

"The energy core, where is it?"

"Pararescue's on the way. You have two minutes until you're surrounded."

"Then I see no reason to prolong this conversation."

Yon-Rogg on the computer screen draws his gun and points it towards Vers.

"No wait." Vers said, on screen.

Vers on the computer screen gestures towards the engine of the plane.

"You mean that energy core?" Vers asked, on screen.

Both Vers and Yon-Rogg on the computer screen look at the engine of the plane. Vers then turns her weapon towards the engine and fires. Immediately, the engine bursts into blue and orange flames, causing Vers and Yon-Rogg to be thrown backward. Vers absorbs the energy, with the flames creating ripples around her. All around the crash site, rocks are turned into dust and trees disintegrate. Vers continues to absorb the energy, her hands begin to spark and her eyes glow bright blue. Shortly afterwards, the blast suddenly stops and Carol is thrown backward onto the ground, with her body still sparking. Yon-Rogg struggles to stand up, and watches Vers from his seated position. Yon-Rogg's team heard the noise and have suddenly appeared.

"Commander, she's still moving. Permission to fire?" Minn-Evra asked, on screen.

"Hold your fire." Yon-Rogg said, on screen.

Yon-Rogg on the computer screen walks up to the still-sparking Vers.

"There's nothing left. The core has been destroyed." Minn-Evra said, on screen.

Yon-Rogg on the computer screen continues looking at Vers, but notices a part of her dog-tag sitting in the dirt. He picks it up and sees 'Vers' inscribed on it.

"She absorbed its power. She's coming with us." Yon-Rogg said, on screen.

"And that's the end of the recording. There is nothing left." I said, when the recording went black. "Carol? Are you okay?"

Outside the study…

Vers is walking outside, confused, "He lied to me."

"He did." I said, guiltily.

Maria, Fury, Talos, and I follow Vers outside slowly.

"Everything that I knew was a lie." Vers said, looking at me. "Why didn't you tell me anything?"

"Because I didn't have the CD. Maria did." I said, clutching the strap of my sling bag. "I couldn't just walk up to Maria and tell her that her best friend is alive. She wouldn't have believed me."

"You're right. I wouldn't have. Not without seeing Carol alive in person." Maria said, sadly.

"Now you understand." Talos said, frowning.

"What? What do I understand now?" Vers asked.

"Yon-Rogg killed Mar-Vell. He killed her. Because she found out that she was on the wrong side of an unjust war."

"No. Your people are terrorists... that kill innocents. I saw the ruins on Torfa."

"Ruins that the Accusers are responsible for. My people lived as refugees on Torfa. Homeless, ever since we resisted Kree rule and they destroyed our planet. Now the handful of us that are left, will be slaughtered next...unless you will help me finish what Mar-Vell started. The coordinates you found, would've powered a lightspeed ship capable of carrying us to safety. A new home, where the Kree can't reach us."

"Lawson always told us that her work at Pegasus wasn't to fight wars, but to end them." Maria said.

"Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. ended in the future. Because some idiot will open up a wormhole to reach Earth. Long story." I said, looking over at Vers. "Back then, Mar-Vell wanted you to help the Skrulls find the core. She trusted you to do so."

"Well, I already destroyed it." Vers said.

"No, you destroyed the engine. The core that powered it is in a remote location. If you help us decode those coordinates, we can find it." Talos said.

"You'll use it to destroy us."

"We just want a home. You and I lost everything at the hands of the Kree. Can't you see it now? You're not one of them."

"You don't know me. You have no idea who I am. I don't even know who I am!" Vers cried.

"You are Carol Danvers. You are the woman on that black box risking her life to do the right thing. My best friend... who supported me as a mother, and a pilot when no one else did. You're smart and funny, and a huge pain in the ass. And you are the most powerful person I knew, way before you could shoot fire from your fist. You hear me? You hear me?" Maria asked.

Barn…

Talos, a Skrull scientist, Fury, Carol, Maria, and I are standing around a table.

"Carol, I know I don't deserve your trust but you were our only lead. The Black Pearl, you were harder to find. Legends about you popped across all of time and space. We were going to ask you to help us, but we didn't know you would appear the same day as her." Talos said, looking between Carol and I. "Carol, we discovered that your energy signature matched Mar-Vell's core. Now, we know why. If only you knew, the importance of it to me. I just need your help decoding the coordinates to Mar-Vell's lab."

"They weren't space time coordinates. Not ones used on a vortex manipulator or a TARDIS. They're safe vectors." I said, happily.

"Orbital positioning and velocity." Fury said.

"You didn't find her lab on Earth, because it's not on Earth." Maria said.

"It's somewhere in space. We just have to follow it." I said, smiling.

"That was the location on the day of the crash six years ago. If we track its course, we'll find it, in orbit, right now." Carol said.

"It's just basic physics." Maria said, smirking.

"In orbit? Was that so difficult to figure out? I mean, you're my science guy, right?" Talos asked.

The Skrull scientist nods then looks down briefly, disappointed in himself.

"Yon-Rogg will catch up to you soon. We've got to get the core before he does." Carol said.

"Mmm. You're going to space?" Fury asked, while eating a sandwich.

"In what?" Carol asked.

"A few tweaks to your vessel should do it. I can handle the modifications." The Skrull scientist said.

"Hmm. Your science guy." Fury said.

Inside the hangar…

Talos and the Skrull scientist are modifying the plane which Carol, Fury, and I flew.

"Good." I said, closing the door in front of me.

Rambeau home…

Carol, Maria, and I are sitting opposite each other at a table.

"Well, I could use a co-pilot. Jared's a good co-pilot, but he isn't you." Carol said, looking at Maria.

"No. No, I... I can't. I can't leave Monica." Maria said, sadly.

"Why? It's okay. I can stay with grandma and pop-pop." Monica said, happily.

"There's no way I'm going, baby. It's too dangerous."

"Testing brand new aerospace tech is dangerous. Didn't you used to do that?" Monica asked.

Carol and I looked at Maria, smiling smugly.

"I fly a time and space machine that taught me how to fly her. Flying a plane is no different." I said, leaning against the table.

"Your plan is to leave the atmosphere in a craft not designed for the journey, and the two of you anticipate hostile encounters with a technologically superior foreign enemy. Correct?" Maria asked, looking between Carol and I.

Carol smiles and shrugs her shoulders. I began laughing a lot, as that is what I do with the Doctor every other day.

"Monica's right. Something that doesn't get talked about is this." I said, talking out my iPhone 16 Pro Max and showing a scene from Victory of the Daleks that had the spitfires take out Dalek spaceships. "Monica, your mom would get to do that. Bringing a plane into space. If she does go."

"That's what I'm saying. That would be so cool. Mom, you have to go." Monica said, looking at Maria.

"Monica…" Maria said, annoyed.

"Mom, Jared's on my side. You have the chance to fly the coolest mission in the history of missions. And you're gonna give it up to sit on the couch and watch Fresh Prince with me? And Jared looks like someone that would watch Fresh Prince with us. I just think that you should consider the kind of example you're setting for your daughter."

"Sorry, Maria. You lost." I said, when Maria looks towards Carol and I for help, but Carol and I are laughing at Maria's position. "You're going up into space with us. Monica will be safe, I promise."

Carol and I gave Monica a thumbs up.

Outside Rambeau home…

Maria is walking towards a car, with her parents inside. Monica sits on the front step watching the encounter. Carol then walks outside with me, with her in her Kree suit on and the two of us sit beside Monica.

"Your Mom's lucky. When they were handing out kids, they gave her the toughest one. Lieutenant Trouble." Carol said.

"You remember." Monica said, beaming.

"Is that mine?" Carol asked, looking at the jacket sitting in Monica's lap. However, Carol protests when Monica attempts to hand it over. "No, no. You hang onto it until Jared and I come back. But there is something that I need your help with. I can't wear these Kree colors anymore, and since you're obviously the only person around here with any sense of style…"

Carol stands up and presses a few buttons on her suit. Carol holds her arm out to Monica, allowing her to change the colors.

Monica replaces the green with bright red and the yellow replaces the grey stripes, "No."

"Nope. That's Shazam's colors." I said, rolling my eyes. "Doesn't suit you."

"It really doesn't suit Aunt Carol." Monica said, pressing the buttons again.

This time, the suit changes to orange, blue and yellow.

"Uh-uh." Monica said, sadly.

"Agreed. I love those three colors. Sunset suit doesn't work for a superhero." I said, letting out a sigh.

Monica presses the buttons again. This time, the suit changes to black with neon lights lining the stripes.

"Definitely not." Monica said, giggling.

"That would look good on you, Monica." I said, looking down at what Carol is wearing. "Your Auntie Carol? Not so much."

Carol, Monica, and I laugh.

Monica changes the color again, this time to a white suit with green stripes.

"No. That just screams Mar-Vell." I said, looking down at the suit Carol is wearing. "Those are still Kree colors."

"That is true. Kree does like white and green. Well, since we're on the same team…" Carol said, gesturing to Monica's red, yellow and blue shirt.

Monica then changes the colors to match her shirt. Carol's suit changes to a blue suit with yellow stripes and red gloves, boots, belt and shoulders.

"How do I look?" Carol asked, looking between Monica and I.

"Fresh." Monica said, happily.

"'Girl, you look so good, I would marry your brother just to get in your family'." I said, quoting a line from 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air'.

"You did not say that!" Monica said, excitedly.

"Had to lighten the mood."

(Open POV)

Forest…

There is a path surrounded by grass. Almost immediately, Yon-Rogg steps onto the path and walks down it. He walks down the path. Yon-Rogg enters the small house in the middle of the forest.

Small house…

Yon-Rogg is in the small house.

Carol, in her Kree colors, is already standing inside and watches Yon-Rogg enter, "What took you so long?"

"I'm fine. Thanks for asking." Yon-Rogg said.

"PRY46-B…" Carol said.

"No, no codes. That system is fallible, as we've learned." Yon-Rogg said.

"Okay, then let's do this."

"Who do I see when I commune with the Supreme Intelligence?"

"The person you most admire and respect, I guess. But you would never tell me who." Carol said.

"And what is your earliest memory of Hala?"

"The transfusion. Blue blood running through my veins." Carol said.

"Whose blood?" Yon-Rogg asked.

Carol looks sideways, confused and stumped, "Hmm."

Yon-Rogg shoots Carol, causing her to fly backward. Yon-Rogg then walks up to her and points his gun at her face.

"That's my blood that's coursing through her veins." Yon-Rogg said, when Carol suddenly turns into a Skrull. "What have you done with her?"

"You're too late." The Skrull said.

Yon-Rogg begins walking away before stopping and turning around, "She knows?"

Before the Skrull can answer, Yon-Rogg shoots him. He puts his gun back in its holster before calling Ronan with the hologram in his arm.

"Ronan, Skrulls have infiltrated C-53. Come at once." Yon-Rogg said.

"For the good of all Kree, Commander, the infestation will be eradicated." Ronan said, as a hologram.

(Jared's POV)

Spaceship…

The spaceship has been modified and is flying above the clouds before cutting to show Carol and Maria flying. Fury and I petted Goose and Talos looking at us uncomfortably.

"Passing 500 and climbing." Carol said.

"You know, you really shouldn't have that thing on your lap." Talos said.

"Our little alliance with you is tenuous at best. And as long as he continues to freak you out…" Fury said.

"Ready, Goose?" I asked, picking up Goose and shoved him towards Talos' face. Talos jerks backward in his seat. "Thank you, kindly."

"…like that, yeah. Jared and I are gonna keep giving him all the love and hugs he needs, right?" Fury asked.

"Can I ask you something? Do you just turn into anything you want?" Maria asked, looking at Talos.

"Ah, well, I have to see it first." Talos said.

"Can you all do it?"

"Physiologically, yeah. But it takes practice and, um, dare I say it, talent to do it well." Talos said.

"Can you turn into a cat? Can you turn into Goose?" I asked, putting Goose back onto my lap.

"What's a cat?"

"This is a cat."

"What about a filing cabinet?" Maria asked.

"Why would I turn into a filing cabinet?" Talos asked.

"A venus fly trap. I'll give you $50 right now if you turn into a venus fly trap." Fury said, happily.

"Ooo. Can you turn into Mickey Mouse!" I cheered. "I would love you if you turned into Mickey Mouse!"

Talos sighs, annoyed at Fury's jokes and my jokes.

"Switching engines from Scramjet to fusion. Buckle up, folks." Carol said, pushing down a lever, causing the plane to suddenly climb further into the sky.

We are pushed back into our seats.

"Hey. Is this normal, like space turbulence?" Fury asked.

"Yup. It is." I said, still petting Goose.

"Pretty much." Carol said, smiling at Fury's question.

"I've been on a lot of spaceships while traveling with the Doctor over the years."

Talos just looks towards Fury and shakes his head.

The plane continues to fly directly upwards, while inside the plane everything begins floating. Carol and Maria's hair begins floating along with a few pens from the console between their seats. Similarly, Goose is floating upside down until Fury extends his arm, which Goose eagerly grabs onto. Maria then flicks a switch and gravity suddenly turns on inside the plane, and everything returns to normal.

"Locking in coordinate grid." Carol said.

"Where is it?" Maria asked.

I phased my head outside the ship, to see that the ship is sitting in empty space with Earth below it.

"That's weird. There's nothing out there." I said, my head still sticking out of the ship.

"It's here. It's gotta be here." Talos said, sadly.

"Well, is it in front of all that nothing, or behind it?" Fury asked.

I phased my head back into the ship. Carol realizes something and pulls out the computer in her arm. After a few swipes, the computer lights up.

"Decloaking activated." The computer said.

Suddenly, a bright light appears from the empty space and a massive laboratory becomes visible. The title 'Mar-Vell's Laboratory, Kree Imperial Cruiser' appears on the computer screen.

Mar-Vell's Laboratory…

Carol flies the spaceship into the laboratory and the five of us disembark the plane and begin walking through the corridors.

The five of us walk into a giant room, with the Tesseract sitting in the reactor on one side of the room. Goose jumps onto the reactor and scratches the Tesseract, intrigued by the bright light. Carol and Maria follow behind him.

"Is that it? The core?" Maria asked.

"In her notes, she called it the Tesseract." Carol said, reaching out and grabbing the Tesseract from its position in the reactor.

"Also known as the Space Stone. One of six Infinity Stones. This was what the Red Skull was after." I said, when Carol then throws the Tesseract in the air like a baseball and walks around the room, beginning to observe her surroundings. "And part of the reason why Captain America's ship fell into the ocean during World War II."

"So this is what caused us to lose him." Fury said, looking at the Tesseract in Carol's hand.

"Whoa. What was Lawson doing with all this kid stuff?" Maria asked, picking up a lunchbox and opening it.

Carol then places the Tesseract inside before closing the box. Fury then coughs and gestures towards a cup of tea, which is still steaming.

"We're not alone." Maria said, sadly.

Talos begins singing loudly. Suddenly, a swarm of scared Skrulls appear from their hiding places. Suddenly a Skrull runs towards Talos and hugs him.

"Talos!" Soren chirped.

"He didn't come here for the Tesseract." Carol said, her eyes widening.

"He came for the kids." I said, happily.

Soren calls a child to come towards her and Talos. The child comes willingly, and Talos leans down to get a better look at him.

"It's okay. We didn't know what to do. Mar-Vell warned us not to send a signal for any reason or the Kree would find us." Soren said.

"You did the right thing." Talos said.

Once Soren noticed that Carol, Maria, Fury, and I are standing in the room, she tries to back away but Talos stops her.

"It's okay, it's okay. She's alright. She's a friend." Talos said.

"I'm not gonna hurt you." Carol said.

"She led me to you."

"I'm so sorry. I didn't know."

"But I did know. I wanted to help out the Skrulls a lot. If I interfered early, it would have caused any of this to not happen." I said, guiltily.

"Carol, this is war. My hands are filthy from it too. But we're here now. You found my family. This is just the beginning. There's thousands of us separated from each other... scattered throughout the galaxy." Talos said.

Talos' daughter walks over to Carol, holds her hand and directs her towards the pinball machine in the corner. When they get there, the child points to the high score in glowing lights. The child jumps excitedly and asks her to play.

"If I played the same pinball machine for six years, I'd have some high scores too." Fury said, laughing.

"Same." I said, happily.

Suddenly, the doors to the lab open, and Yon-Rogg and his team walk through.

"Fraternizing with the enemy?" Yon-Rogg asked.

Fury draws his gun but Minn-Erva already has hers pointed directly towards him. When she gestures for him to drop it, he raises his hands in surrender and returns the gun to its holster. Yon-Rogg walks towards Carol and throws Goose along the floor towards her. Talos has positioned Soren behind her, Fury, Maria, and I are unarmed and the Kree's have surrounded the five of us.

"What did you do to your uniform?" Yon-Rogg asked.

"They got in her head. Just like we thought." Minn-Evra said.

"The Supreme Intelligence will set her straight." Korath said.

"You can see they're not soldiers, let them go. You can have me." Talos said.

"And the core?" Yon-Rogg asked.

"You lied to me." Carol said.

"I made you a better version of yourself. What's given can be taken away."

Carol tries to light up her fists but they just spark uselessly before eventually dying out. The chip in her neck has also turned off. Instead of using her powers, Carol runs towards Yon-Rog and begins punching him. This results in a fist fight between the two. Quickly, Yon-Rogg lights up a gadget in his suit. The gadget glowed bright blue and caused Carol to lean back in an attempt to avoid it. Around her, the Kree are attacking the Skrulls, forcing them to kneel. Yon-Rogg then jerks his arm away from Carol, causing her to fall onto the ground.

"Carol!" I said, looking down at Carol. "Shit."

(Open POV)

Supreme Intelligence…

When Carol wakes up, the Supreme Intelligence machine is attached to her. She is kneeling with her hands bound in front of her. When Carol meets the Supreme Intelligence, a record is playing beside her and a long table is sitting in front of her, a few meters away with Dr. Lawson sitting at the only seat.

"There she is. Seems like your time on C-53 jogged the old memory. This jacket? It's killer by the way." The Supreme Intelligence said, standing up and begins dancing to the music. "The music, it's a nice touch."

"Let... me... out." Carol said.

"No can do." The Supreme Intelligence said.

"If you hurt them, I will burn you to the ground."

"With what exactly? Your powers came from us."

"You didn't give me these powers. The blast did."

"And yet, you've never had the strength to control them on your own."

Carol tries to blast the Supreme Intelligence with her energy blast, but when she tries the Supreme Intelligence snaps her fingers and the energy disappears, replaced with searing pain in Carol's neck which causes Carol to double over in pain.

(Jared's POV)

Spaceship…

The Kree are still surrounding the Skrulls, and Goose is being scanned with a Kree scanner.

"Species: Flerken. Threat: High." The scanner said.

Bron-Char begins putting a muzzle on Goose's head, but is met by protests from Fury and I.

"It's a cat. Not Hannibal Lecter." Fury said, annoyed.

"Yeah. If anything, the cat is more like Garfield." I said, happily.

"Species: Human males. Threat: Low to none." The scanner said.

"That thing is clearly busted." Fury said, scoffing.

"Load the Flerken onto the heli. Eject the others into space." Minn-Erva said.

(Open POV)

Supreme Intelligence…

Inside the Supreme Intelligence, Carol has just finished standing up after the pain in her neck.

"You did good, ace. Thanks to you, those insidious shapeshifters will threaten our borders no more." The Supreme Intelligence said.

"I used to believe your lies. But the Skrulls are just fighting for a home. You're talking about destroying them because they won't submit to your rule. And neither will I." Carol said.

"We found you. We embraced you as our own."

"You stole me. From my home, my family, my friends." Carol said, running forward and jumping to punch Lawson, however, her hand travels right through Lawson's skull.

Lawson then throws Carol into a wall, leaving Carol hanging sideways.

"It's cute how hard you try. Remember... without us...you're weak." The Supreme Intelligence said, as Carol pushes herself behind the wall, and sees a screen of her younger memories on Earth playing. "You're flawed. Helpless. We saved you."

The screen of Carol's failures continues to play, until she suddenly drops, falling into nothingness until suddenly landing on the floor.

"Without us... you're only human." The Supreme Intelligence said.

"You're right. I'm only human." Carol said.

Suddenly a montage plays of Carol standing up every time after her failures.

"On Hala, you were reborn. Vers." The Supreme Intelligence said.

"My name... is Carol." Carol said, lighting up her fist, but Lawson blasts energy towards her first.

Lawson's energy surrounds Carol, but Carol manages to walk towards Lawson.

(Jared's POV)

Spaceship…

Carol's hands begin to light up and begin burning the machine.

"She's trying to break out." Korath said, at a loss for words.

"And I didn't even have to do it." I said, watching Carol continuing to release energy waves from her hands.

This causes all electricity on the ship to malfunction. Goose's cage comes loose, the prisoner's handcuffs suddenly pop open and the cage full of Skrulls is opened.

(Open POV)

Supreme Intelligence…

"I've been fighting with one arm tied behind my back. But what happens…" Carol said, pulling out the chip attached to her neck, causing the energy from her fists to spread to cover her entire body. "...when I'm finally set free?"

(Jared's POV)

Spaceship…

Carol drops the chip before flashing back to her absorbing the energy from the explosion before flashing back to the present day where the chip explodes off her neck like a bullet and she is released from the Supreme Intelligence, glowing and floating in the air. She suddenly blasts energy from her hands, and sends four Kree flying backward into the wall behind them. She grabs the lunchbox with the Tesseract and finds Maria, Fury, and I.

"You know you're glowing, right?" Fury asked.

"I'll explain it later." Carol said, opening the lunchbox to reveal the Tesseract glowing inside. "Take the Tesseract, leaving the lunchbox."

"Me?" Fury asked.

"Yeah." I said, unbuckling Goose's collar and I am now holding him.

"I'm not touching that thing." Fury said, annoyed

"Want me to get you an oven mitt?" Carol asked.

"No need to get Fury one." I said, and Goose suddenly lurched himself out of my arms and giant tentacles emerged from inside Goose's mouth.

Goose picks up the Tesseract from the lunchbox and swallows it whole before returning back to a normal cat. I dropped Goose while smiling, seeing Fury surprised by this.

"Get the Skrulls in the QuadJet and go. Take the Flerken with you." Carol said.

"What about you?" Maria asked, looking at Carol.

"I'll buy you some time!" Carol yelled.

"I'm picking you up now. I'm trusting you not to eat me." Fury said, looking down at Goose.

Carol is sitting on the railing of an overhead corridor.

Carol holds up the lunchbox in front of her before jumping over the railing once she has the Kree's attention, "Hey Guys. Arm-wrestle for the Tesseract."

"I used to find you amusing. Let's put an end to this!" Yon-Rogg said, angrily.

The Kree all draw their weapon and begin to advance on her. Carol simply blasts her energy down the overpass, causing the metal to snap and four Kree to be incapacitated. Carol then proceeds to take on the Kree, attacking them individually. Each fight only lasts a few seconds, but always results in Carol dominating.

Maria picks up a gun and fires until Goose opens his mouth and the tentacles take the Kree soldiers, beat them up and swallow them, "Okay."

"Good kitty." Fury said, happily.

"Nice work, Goose." I said, smiling.

"You knew all along. Is that why we never hung out?" Carol asked, looking at Minn-Erva.

"No. I just never liked you." Minn-Erva said, scoffing.

"Run!" I said, worried.

Fury, Maria, and I are running through a corridor on the ship. Suddenly, a group of Kree appears behind us.

"Hey! In a hurry?" A Kree asked.

With the fight between Yon-Rogg and Carol, Yon-Rogg is standing above Carol, about to attack her.

"Don't make me do this." Att-Lass said.

"Okay." Carol said, blasting some energy, causing her to fly upwards and Yon-Rogg to fly backward towards a wall.

"Now! Come on! Do your thing. Come on! Dammit, Goose. Pick a side." Fury said, looking down at Goose.

"Take them to the hangar too. We'll blast them all into space." The Kree said.

"Play it cool. Just like Havana. Fury. Do you have the thing?" Talos asked.

"Flerken kitty ate it." Fury said, sadly.

"Yeah. Goose ate the Tesseract." I said, rolling my eyes.

"Come on. Move. Move!" The Kree yelled.

"Follow my lead. Cover her eyes." Talos said, looking down at Soren.

Talos then shoots the four guards escorting the Skrulls onto the ship, causing a distraction.

"Get on the ship. Let's go, let's go." Talos said.

"Talos. You'll run into someone called Petronella Osgood in the future. Someday, a ceasefire between humanity and the Zygons will happen on Earth. Long story." I said, clutching the strap of my sling bag. "There's going to be two Osgoods. One human and one Zygon disguised as a human. They're both Osgood."

"I see. So, you're helping out us Skrulls and those Zygons." Talos said, his eyes widening. "When will that ceasefire happen? So I am aware."

"It'll start sometime in 2013."

The fighting between Yon-Rogg and Carol continues. Eventually, Yon-Rogg pins Carol to the wall with a mountain of metal from the walkway.

Yon-Rogg opens the lunchbox to find a soup container sitting inside, "Nice diversion."

"I could've swore I put it in there." Carol said.

The fighting between Carol and Yon-Rogg restarts with Yon-Rogg throwing loose pieces of metal at Carol telepathically. Carol quickly escapes and runs towards the energy source.

Quadjet…

However, the Kree found the Skrulls had begun escaping and ran towards the hangar, shooting randomly at the ship. One of these bullets hits Talos, causing him to fall over in pain.

"Talos!" I said, lifting Talos off the ground and supporting him from falling again. "It's okay. I got you."

Maria Rambeau starts the ship and leaves the Laboratory with the Skrulls, Nick Fury, and I. I laid Talos onto a chair for him to relax.

"Minn-Erva, take them down on a dropship." Yon-Rogg said.

"On it." Minn-Erva said.

The spaceship is being piloted by Maria.

"You all right, friend?" Fury asked, looking down at Talos.

"Never... better." Talos said, sadly.

"We've got a bogey. Coming in hot." Maria said, frowning.

(Open POV)

Earth…

Minn-Erva follows the Skrulls down to Earth in a space pod. Yon-Rogg enters a pod, too, just as Carol catches up with him. She lights up her fists, preparing to fire, but Yon-Rogg drops the ship, catching her by surprise. She activates her helmet and holds onto the pod tightly. Meanwhile, Minn-Erva starts shooting at the Quadjet and Maria barely dodges the bullets while flying through the desert. Carol attempts to shoot Yon-Rogg again, but she is sent backwards by his magnetron device. She falls down to Earth, but she manages to calm and control her powers right before hitting the ground, which allows her to fly back up. Meanwhile Minn-Erva continues to chase down the Skrulls, as the two spaceships enter a canyon. Maria evades the bullets with ease and takes a shortcut, allowing her to be in front of Minn-Erva's pod and destroy it with blasts.

Quadjet…

"Ha ha!" Fury said, laughing.

"Yes! Boom!" Maria said, excitedly.

"Now that's what I am talking about!" I said, excitedly. "You're going to make Monica proud!"

"Yeah!"

Yon-Rogg attacks the Quadjet, but Carol hits his pod in her flight.

"What the hell was that?" Fury asked, looking over at me.

"It's the Kree. And some asshole called Ronan the Accuser. Carol got this." I said, happily. "She'll protect us and the Tesseract."

(Open POV)

Earth…

Due to the damage taken, Yon-Rogg's pod crashes into the desert. At the same time, the Accusers arrive outside Earth's atmosphere..

"Deploy ballistic warheads." Ronan said.

All spaceships launch the missiles towards Earth. Carol manages to catch one with her hands and, using her newly discovered power, throws it back, causing it to explode. The explosion destroys the rest of the warheads, while Carol flies right through the fire towards the spaceships.

"That's impossible." An Accuser said, at a loss for words.

"C-53 doesn't have a defense system advanced enough to destroy our warheads." Ronan said.

"That's not their defense system, Ronan."

"Take her down."

The spaceships deploy several drones which start shooting at Carol. She avoids most of them and absorbs the energy of the blasts that hit her. She then proceeds to destroy all the drones and one of the Accusers' spaceships, before flying in front of Ronan, showing her full power.

"Return to the jump point. We'll be back for the weapon." Ronan said.

"The core?" The Accuser asked.

"The woman."

The Kree retreat, and Carol returns to Earth, where she confronts Yon-Rogg.

"I'm so proud of you. You've come a long way since I found you that day by the lake. But can you keep your emotions in check long enough to take me on? Or will it get the better of you, as always? I always told you... you'll be ready, the day you can knock me down as yourself. This is that moment. This is that moment, Vers! Turn off the light show, and prove, prove to me, you can beat me without…" Yon-Rogg said.

Carol shoots Yon-Rogg with a small blast, which sends him flying backwards and hits a rock. She then walks towards him, while he tries to crawl back.

"I have nothing to prove to you." Carol said, reaching her hand out to Yon-Rogg and he took it.

Carol drags Yon-Rogg across the desert, and puts him in the Kree pod in which he crashed. Carol enters coordinates on the computer.

"Destination: Hala." The computer said.

"I can't go back empty-handed." Yon-Rogg said, looking at Carol.

"You won't be empty-handed. I'm sending you with a message. Tell the Supreme Intelligence that I'm coming to end it. The war, the lies, all of it." Carol said.

"You can't do this."

Carol starts the spacepod, but it can't take off because of the damage. She fires a blast at the engine, and the spacepod finally takes off..

(Jared's POV)

Quadjet…

Nick Fury is holding Goose.

"That was a close call, huh, Goosey? Huh? The bad guy's still in there somewhere…" Fury said, when Goose scratches his eye. "Oh! MOTHER FLERKEN!!!"

"You okay?" Maria asked, looking at Fury.

"Yeah. It's just a scratch." Fury said, while there is a serious scratch on his left eye.

"No…" Talos said, letting out a sigh.

"It's not just a scratch. You're not turning into a werewolf. Thankfully." I said, smiling.

Rambeau Home…

Everyone, including me, gathered for dinner.

"I can't believe you got into the raddest dogfight ever." Carol said, happily.

"I'd say you arrived just in time." Maria said.

"It was too close for comfort." I said, drinking a can of Coke.

"It really was."

"That's some nifty flying you did out there. SHIELD could always use a good pilot like you." Fury said.

"I'll consider it. As long as you don't call my flying nifty again. How's your eye?" Maria asked.

"Getting better every second."

"Liar." I said, loving my Coke.

"Just so I'm clear, you were Soh-Larr, and the SHIELD agent?" Carol asked, looking at Talos.

"Keller. Tied my boss up, stole his identity." Fury said.

"I borrowed his likeness. I'm no thief." Talos said, smugly.

"It's a little like thief." Soren said.

"Yup. You did steal his look for infiltration." I said, looking down at the floor.

"Whose side are you on?" Talos asked, looking between Soren and I.

"You're good to go here til you recover, but you and your family will need a new look." Fury said.

"I could go back to being your boss." Talos said.

"Please don't."

"Come on. I love sporting his beautiful blue eyes."

"No way, you guys have the best eyes. Don't ever change your eyes." Monica said, sadly.

"I'll help you find a home. Finish what Mar-Vell started." Carol said.

"They can stay here with us, can't they, Mom?" Monica asked, looking at Maria.

"They won't be safe here, baby. Auntie Carol is right. They need their own home." Maria said.

"I'll be back before you know it." Carol said.

"Maybe I can fly up and meet you halfway." Monica said, happily.

"Only if you learn to glow, like your Auntie Carol." Fury said, smirking.

"Or maybe I'll build a spaceship. You don't know."

"He doesn't." Carol said.

An hour or two have passed while Carol, Fury, and I are washing the dishes.

"Keep the Tesseract on Earth. Hidden." Carol said, looking between Fury and I.

"Sure. I can do that." I said, leaning against the kitchen counter.

"I can do that as well. You're sure that's what Marvel would want?" Fury asked.

"It's Mar-Vell, Fury."

"That's what I said."

"It's two words. Mar-Vell. I kinda have to know this. Foreknowledge and all." I said, rolling my eyes.

"Mar-Vell. Marvel sounds a lot better. Carol, you know, like the Marvelettes?" Fury asked, singing. "Oh, yeah, wait a minute, Mr. Postman. Ay, ay, ay, ay, Mr. Postman. Not ringing any bells?"

"Keep singing. Maybe it'll come back to me." Carol said, taking out Fury's pager, which has her symbol on it. "I upgraded it. Range should be, a couple galaxies, at least."

Carol offers it to Fury, but before he can take it, she pulls it away.

"What? You think I'm gonna crank call you?" Fury asked.

"For emergencies only. Okay?" Carol asked.

"Well, if you're ever passing back through this galaxy, be sure to give a brother a shout." Fury said.

"Carol." I said, taking out a Nokia 3310 and handing it to Carol. "I've upgraded it already. It's a super phone. Should be able to call you across all of time and space."

"Thank you. Call me off this phone. For emergencies only." Carol said, placing her Nokia 3310 into her pocket. "This phone feels indestructible."

Carol, Fury and I fist bump. Carol and I both teasingly electrocute Fury, with the three of us laughing it off.

Outside Rambeau House…

Monica gives Carol her leather jacket, "We got the ketchup stain off."

"Thanks, Lieutenant Trouble. It's hard for me to say goodbye, too." Carol said, sadly.

"Go on." Maria said.

"I'll look after Monica and Maria for you. I promise." I said, happily. "There's no need to worry."

"Seriously. Jared. Thank you." Carol said, taking off and flies up to Mar-Vell's laboratory, where the Skrulls were waiting for her.

(Open POV)

Space…

Carol looks at the Earth one last time.

Spaceship…

Carol flies into the spaceship. As soon as she enters, the ship starts moving at lightspeed, towards other galaxies.

(Jared's POV)

Fury's office…

Fury is wearing an eyepatch. He writes on his computer about 'The Protector Initiative'. I looked over at Fury's computer.

"'Protector Initiative' doesn't sound good." I said, drinking a coffee.

"It's only an idea." Fury said, sadly.

I placed my coffee mug onto the table.

Phil Coulson enters the room with a suitcase in his hands, "Glad to have you back, sir. This came for you. And welcome to SHIELD, Jared."

"Thanks. These are for you, Phil." I said, taking out a stack of vintage Captain America trading cards out of my sling bag and handing them to Coulson. "I lived through the entire twentieth century. When wouldn't I have time to get them?"

"Thank you." Coulson said, looking down at the Captain America trading cards. "They really are vintage and authentic.

Fury opens the suitcase to reveal lots of prosthetic eyes of different colors.

"So, is it true, Fury? That the Kree burned your eye out because you and Jared refused to give them the Tesseract?" Coulson asked.

"I'll neither confirm nor deny the facts of that story." Fury said.

"Same. Even if you're not really feeling the story, Phil." I said, picking up my coffee mug and began drinking the coffee again.

"Understood. I'm sorry to report that we still haven't found the Tesseract." Coulson said.

"I'm sure it will turn up somewhere." Fury said, smugly.

Fury and I look at Goose.

"It probably will." I said, and Goose now lives with Fury.

"I'll let the both of you know when it does." Coulson said.

"Then what?" Fury asked.

"Sir?"

"We have no idea what other intergalactic threats are out there. Jared told us of two other intergalactic threats out there called the Slitheen and the Zygons. And our one-woman security force had a prior commitment on the other side of the universe. SHIELD, UNIT, and Torchwood alone can't protect us. We need to find more." Fury said.

"More weapons?" Coulson asked.

"Nope. We need to find more heroes. More superheroes." I said, looking down at the floor.

"You think we can find others like her?"

"We found her and we weren't even looking." Fury said.

"Get some rest, sir. You got a big decision to make." Coulson said, leaving the room.

"Fury, that isn't a good name." I said, walking over to Fury's computer and began looking through Carol's file. "Look at Carol's nickname."

"Oh." Fury said, looking at the file and finding out that Carol was nicknamed 'Avenger'.

"Yeah. She's an Avenger."

"How's this?" Fury asked, deciding to rename his project 'The Avengers Initiative'. "Jared, look after this place for me."

"I will." I said, smiling.

Fury left his office. Goose jumps on her owner's desk. She vomits the Tesseract on the desk and starts grooming herself.

"Oh, Goose." I said, looking down at Goose. "Leaving the Tesseract exposed like that."
