Zander's knees grew weak, unable to support the weight of his body. He plopped down to the floor, his vision blurry. A hand rested protectively over his aching heart, the darkness surrounding him slowly fading.
Tears fell freely, soaking his face. He couldn't recall the last time he shed as many tears as he was doing now. Perhaps the only other time he had felt this awful was when he discovered that the successful experiment he was so proud of was his mate.
He blinked once, twice, and a couple more times until his vision was clear enough to decipher things. Then the ache in his heart intensified, his body filled with dread. Before him was his beloved, lying still on a bed he easily recognised. He could tell from his position that both Lila and Kai were in danger.
He panicked, trying to stand up and go to them. Sadly, his body wasnt cooperating, making him bite down on his lips in desperation. He attempted again, but failed repeatedly.
