Daryn and Darla had downed six mugs and counting. Daryn's making a total of ten while Darla downed six. Still the bartender continued brewing brew after brew, filled mugs were emptied by the two of them.
They had even gained a little crowd from the inn. Those who seemed impressed with their drinking ability. That is eldery men and a handful of some women.
"Your not gonna quit Darla?" Daryn asked at one moment when Darla was filling a little hesitant on the mug she had been passed but she countered.
"Are you afraid already Daryn?" She drank the ale in her hand then said lookin at him slyly "dont worry I'm not weak yet. We can drink the whole night away"
Daryn laughed then gulped the ale in his mug and demanded another. Eric had already given up at one point leaving the contest between both of them as he watched from his seat.
When the both of them had reached their fifteenth rounds, Darla started feeling the trips. She waited to catch her breathe but when she saw Daryn still drinking his, she started drinking again.
By the time the bartender brought their eighteenth rounds, Darla was already saturated. She ended her flow of the ale as the small crowd cheered Daryn as the winner. Eric went to her side.
"Finally." Eric said gaining a glance from Darla. Meanwhile people cheered at Daryn as he continued his nineteenth mug going for twenty. "Wow. He drinks like a sailor"
"You got that right" Darla said as she watched Daryn down his twentieth brew after that he stopped. He looked at her and smiled. Something twirled in Darla's stomach as she saw the look on his face.
"So you won?" She said resting her elbows on the table and her chin on her palm.
"I told you i would" his voice was deepened because of too much ale.
"You did didn't you?" She mumured huskily now. Then she sighed and began to rise from her seat. "Well, I'm spent i need sleep"
"Yes. Thats needed its awfully late you two" Eric quipped. Daryn nodded and started rising from his seat too. Suddenly a man from somewhere in the resturant appeared in front of Darla.
Broad and rough looking, it was obvious he was not new to battle. He smelled of booze and he staggered but still tried to stay upright as he spoke to Darla.
"Hello beautiful, what do say we find somewhere private to spend the night. Loose the excess attention so i can take care of you."
Darla sighed. The man that wanted to take care of her couldn't even stand properly. "Gods the stupidity men come with"
She shoved the man aside so she could pass. Believing him to move easily since he was obviously drunk. But the rugged looking man didn't even budge.
Daryn noticed this from behind Darla and added enough strength to push the man away from their path.
The man stumbled to a nearby table. He laughed and smoothly pushed himself to his feet.
"You wanna brawl boy?" The man said as four more huge men walked to them from different parts of the restaurant. All with weapons.
"Daryn, a different tune is playing" Eric arrived beside his friend. "I don't see an escape either"
"Hmm. I suddenly feel it would have been better if we left today Darla" but Darla did not speak.
The five men surrounded them. With the man that approached Darla in front. Perhaps the leader. And each had a weapon in hand with exception of the man in front.
Two men held wooden clubs, the other with a scar to his left eye was swinging a hand knife and the last guy held a bottle. They had murder shining in their eyes.
"C'mon guys they don't look that strong" Darla said just barely above a whisper so only the men beside her could hear. They just sighed in response.
"Now beautiful lady you come with me" the staggering man in front grabbed Darla's wrist in one swift movement that surprised everyone and pulled Darla towards him. Gaining jeers from his companions. Daryn didn't even have time to process it.
As Darla covered the small distance that seperated them, she brought out her dagger from her belt and when she was close enough, she stabbed it into the mans side aiming for the rib cage that protected his heart.
She pushed the dagger in his body till the blades could no longer be seen outside of his body. The man just watched Darla as she plundged the dagger into his heart. Retrieved the dagger and plunged again. Repeatedly. He made no sound as the light left his eyes.
His men were busy watching Darla's companions so they won't make any sudden movement. Unknown to them of their friends predicament. It was until he fell and they heard a tud on the wooden floor did they understand.
The big guy laid on the floor with blood pouring out from the wound and Darla was not next to him. All hell broke loose.
The huge men turned to face Daryn and Eric who had already used the opportunity that the men were not looking to attack them.
Daryn attacked the man with a hand knife. He yanked the knife from his loose grip and stabbed him with it in the neck. Hot blood sprayed out of his neck like a hot gaiser.
The men with the wooden clubs started swinging their clubs at Daryn and he stepped back to dodge them. The other man with the bottle went after Eric who used the ale keg on the table to bash his head then he collected the bottle and broke it on the dazzed man's head. The man was knocked out instantly.
Then Eric saw Darla pick up a bottle from a table as she walked to where Daryn battled with the last two. Daryn had caught one club and was trying to collect it from the man using it but the other man was about to hit him with his own club. But Darla had reached them and broke the bottle on the man's head before he could swing his weapon.
The man paused as pain passed through his body. Before he could return from his daze, Darla used the sharp edges of the broken bottle to make a slash wound on his hand. The hand that held the wooden club.
He shouted his pain and let go of the club. Then immediately held his bleeding hand as if that would relieve the pain.
Darla picked up the wooden club and smashed his head with one swing. The man fell on the floor. Meanwhile, Daryn let go of his opponents wooden club and used the hand knife to slice at the mans extended arm making a deep cut at the wrist. Passing the knife to the other hand, he punched the man below the jaw. The man staggered back.
Daryn covered the gap and punched the big mans throat. Knocking the air out of him. The man started gasping for air. Daryn collected his club and smashed his head. Probably a bit too hard because the man started bleeding from his head afterwards.
