Chapter 207 - Chapter 172: The Hammer Rises

**Captain James Nolan's Log, Supplemental**

**USS Discovery – Bridge**

**USS Discovery Command recording**

**40 days after Rothgard's Fall**

The anvil waits.

The hammer is in motion.

The black tide is about to break.

Captain James Nolan stood on the bridge of Discovery, arms folded behind his back, his silhouette sharp against the massive holographic display that dominated the forward section. The satellite feeds painted the western front in cold, clinical light — blue icons for 1st Company and Albion positions, black icons for the Imperial lines. Even after weeks of attrition, the black markers remained thick and stubborn.

A soft chime echoed through the bridge. "Four hours, thirty-nine minutes, thirty-four seconds," A.L.I. reported from her station, her voice calm and precise. "Operation Hammer and Anvil remains on schedule." Nolan gave a single, measured nod, his eyes never leaving the display. The weight of what was about to happen pressed down on the bridge like a physical force. On the ground, the final pieces were sliding into place.

Forward Operating Base – Command Center

Inside the reinforced command center, Captain Marcus Hale stood over the glowing holo-table, one hand pressed to his ear as he spoke rapidly into his comm. "Alpha, confirm your eastern flank is locked. I want every MRAC barricade in position and every heavy weapon sighted in. No gaps. Charlie, same on the west. We open the corridor — but we do *not* let them through."

Across the table, Captain Aric Vaelor held his communication crystal close to his lips, speaking in low, urgent tones to the Albion commanders. "Hold your positions until the signal. When the gap opens, you hold the flanks. No one advances until the hammer falls. Understood?" Vaelor lowered the crystal and met Hale's eyes. Both men gave a single, grim nod. The clock was ticking, and every second brought them closer to the moment that would decide the fate of the western front.

Behind Enemy Lines – 4 Hours 39 Minutes 34 Seconds Until Operation Hammer and Anvil

Several miles behind the Imperial battlements, the night was broken by the deep, resonant thrum of heavy engines. A CHS-130 Condor Heavy Shuttle descended through the darkness, its massive frame blotting out the stars. Two VS-22 Jackal gunships flanked it like wolves, their twin hybrid fusion-torch engines glowing with a faint blue-white light as they maintained tight escort formation. The trio dropped low, skimming the treetops before settling into a narrow clearing with a deep, vibrating thud. The Condor's rear ramp dropped with a hydraulic hiss, spilling pale interior light onto the forest floor.

First out were the Marines, moving with the disciplined precision of men who had done this a thousand times. Their matte-grey armor blended into the shadows as they fanned out and secured the perimeter. Behind them came the Delta operators — black-clad ghosts with suppressed weapons and cold, focused eyes. The original HAS-V armored vehicles rolled down the ramp one after another, their electric motors humming softly as they formed a defensive line.

Among them moved familiar faces. Sergeant Kane stepped off the ramp and took a slow breath of the cool night air. He glanced at the Marine beside him. "Feels strange not having our usual shadows with us." The Delta operator — a woman with a jagged scar across her left cheek — gave a low chuckle. "Delta Three is still up in Rothguard training the Resistance. Those kids we trained are probably holding the line right now while we get to have all the fun."

Another Marine, Corporal Reyes, grinned as he checked his weapon. "Can you imagine? Torin probably already put a noble on his face in the mud. Kid's got no chill." Kane smirked. "Kira's probably right there with him, making it worse. And Lira… that little fox is probably taking notes on how to do it better next time." A low ripple of laughter moved through the group as they formed up. The banter was light, but beneath it ran a current of quiet pride — and something heavier. These men and women had spent weeks breaking down and rebuilding the recruits of 1st Company. They had pushed them through hell and back.

Now those same recruits were about to be tested in the largest operation since the war began. A tall Delta operator named Sergeant Holt stepped forward, his voice low but carrying across the clearing. "Listen up. Those kids we trained — Torin, Kira, Garrick, the whole lot — they're holding the line right now. They're the anvil. We're the hammer. When we hit the Imperials from the south, we hit them hard. No mercy. No hesitation. We cut off their retreat, and we make them regret ever stepping foot on this continent."

He looked around at the assembled Marines and Delta operators, his expression hardening. "Those recruits trusted us to make them ready. Let's not disappoint them." The group fell silent for a moment, the weight of the mission settling over them like a shroud. Then the Condor's pilot's voice crackled over their comms. "Package delivered. Good hunting, ground team. Jackals will maintain overwatch until you're clear."

The ramp began to rise. The HAS-Vs idled softly, their crews already scanning the treeline with cold efficiency. Sergeant Kane checked his weapon one final time, then looked toward the distant Imperial lines, where the black tide waited. "Four hours and change," he murmured. "Let's go make history." The black tide was about to learn what it meant to face both the anvil… and the hammer.
